Job Description

Steam Plant Systems Engineering is looking to hire a highly motivated and dedicated professional to join its management team as an Electrical Systems Engineer. The ideal candidate for this dynamic position must demonstrate a high energy level, understand the vital importance of Commitment to Excellence, and possess a high regard for Con Edisons Corporate Values and Mission. Must be a self-starter, able to exercise independent judgment and render sound business decisions. Must be well-organized, detail oriented, flexible to handle multiple assignments, and meet deadlines. A bachelors degree in engineering is required along with a thorough understanding of plant electrical system design, construction, operations, maintenance, testing, or analysis within the utility or marine propulsion industries. Experience with transformers (up to 120,000kVA), switchgear, breakers and power cables (up to 69kV), generators (up to 230,000kVA), motors, MCCs, power panels, buss-work, or electric transmission is required. Working knowledge of equipment sizing, analysis, lifecycle management, protection schemes, UPS systems, and dielectric fluids, with familiarity with state and federal regulations, industry standards, and process safety practices. Required Education/Experience Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and five (5) years of engineering work experience focused on the design, analysis, and modification of industrial systems, or Master's Degree in Engineering and four (4) years of engineering work experience focused on the design, analysis, and modification of industrial systems. Preferred Education/Experience Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and five (5) years of engineering work experience focused on the design, analysis, and modification of industrial systems. Relevant Work Experience Demonstrated personal accountability with the ability to manage multiple assignments and adjust priorities as needed, required. Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a teambased environment, required. Understanding of the importance of leadership, commitment to excellence, and the delivery of highquality customer service, required. Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with personnel at all levels of the organization, required. Highly organized and detailoriented, with the ability to work effectively in both office and field environments, required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, required. Experience working in electric and/or steam power plants or substations, preferred. Experience performing or directing electrical testing of plant equipment, including transformers, generators, breakers, and related systems, preferred. Master Electrician License Preferred Additional Physical Demands The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays. Must be able to travel to company locations and wear the required PPE as needed. Other requirements that are position specific will be noted in the posting Core Responsibilities Perform System Condition Assessments to identify and document system or component deficiencies, review equipment operation, and generate and drive corrective actions. Establish and maintain effective lines of communication among various internal and external organizations. Review and maintain System Descriptions, P&IDs, and other design basis documentation. Perform root cause analysis of component failures and forced outages. Provide engineering support to Steam Generating Stations. Participate in project planning, outages, and construction processes. Generate or review acceptance test plans and oversee or observe testing/commissioning. Interface with and track activities of equipment and service providers, both inside and outside the Company. Generate detailed reports and presentations to inform and guide Central Engineering capital planning and all levels of management. Establish and maintain effective lines of communication among various internal and external organizations. Perform other related tasks and assignments as needed.
