Job Description

ATR (Position) Position Details Search Number CPJ # 8963 Title Plant Utilities Engineer 1 (NY HELPS) (Multiple Positions) Category Clerical/Maintenance/Service Department Central Heating Plant Position Summary The Central Heating Plant maintains all heating, air conditioning, hot water, ventilation, and refrigeration services as well as overseeing the proper functioning of all elevators on campus. We also answer after hours calls and provide service, as needed, and are a 24/7 operation. We are a part of the Administration & Finance division which provides essential services to our campus, local, state, federal and international customers. We are responsible for human, physical, financial and technical resources. As professionals, we navigate systems in a collaborative and sensitive way to assist the University in achieving its educational mission. There are two available positions with the following schedules: 1.) 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. with pass days of Friday and Saturday and 2.) 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. with pass days of Tuesday and Wednesday. The work schedule will be discussed during the interview process and determined at time of offer.
Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:
These positions will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, testing and calibration of mechanical and electrical equipment providing heat, hot water, ventilation, air conditioning and electrical distribution in a safe and efficient manner. The successful candidates will also be expected to make appropriate recommendations on major overhauls and replacement of equipment, as well as identify, recommend, and develop energy conservation projects. The ordering of necessary parts for all jobs related to heating and ventilation is also included. These positions are also expected to effectively train Plant Utilities Assistants (PUAs) while on shift and in the field, and acts as watch engineer and shift leader when required. The successful candidates may also supervise contractors in an emergency or project situation and may be required to assume responsibility for operations of the overall physical plant at times. The use of appropriate PPE, selecting and safely using the appropriate tools and equipment needed to complete the assigned tasks, and attending job related training is also required. Required Qualifications:
This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). Must be eligible for permanent appointment to this title pursuant to civil service law A demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with a variety of individuals Valid driver's license and the ability to be LENS cleared to operate state vehicles Competitive (NON-NY HELPS):
Transfer Eligibility Requirement:
You must have a current permanent appointment with a minimum of 1 year of service in a position of the same title or transferable title. Non-competitive (NY HELPS): To be eligible for a

appointment, the candidate must meet the minimum qualifications listed on the Civil Service exam announcements.
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior supervisory experience Salary (Applicant View) $56,506 - $68,630, in accordance with CSEA salary schedule. Includes excellent benefits.
