  • Supervises Plant Utilities Engineers 1 and other lower-level staff engaged in plant operations, maintenance, and repair functions; may supervise contractors.
  • Schedules, plans, and supervises the activities of skilled and semi-skilled employees and contractors involved with plant operations, maintenance, and repair activities.
  • Provides training, instruction, and assistance to staff in the performance of tasks, and implements changes in procedures to improve efficiency.
  • Inspects plant equipment and operations to ensure proper maintenance, scheduling, and safe and efficient operations.
  • Prepares estimates of materials, parts needs, and costs; orders or directs ordering of materials, equipment, and parts; and maintains tool and equipment inventories per applicable policies and standards.
  • Supervises and coordinates the handling of various types of hazardous materials and the response to any incidents having potential environmental impact or safety concerns.
  • Identifies budget requirements, including staffing, repair, maintenance, material, and equipment needs; makes recommendations to assist with preparation of annual operating budgets.
  • Enforces energy conservation protocols and supervises the installation and modification of equipment to obtain peak energy efficiency.

Minimum Qualifications Promotion:
One year of permanent service as a Plant Utilities Engineer 1 and must be reachable on the current Civil Service list for Plant Utilities Engineer 2.
Transfer:
Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/c status in the posted title and be eligible for lateral transfer; OR be eligible to transfer via Section 70.1, 70.4, or 52.6 of Civil Service Law. The transfer cannot be a second consecutive transfer resulting in an advancement of more than two salary grades.   • If you are currently a New York State employee serving in a permanent competitive qualifying title and eligible for a transfer via Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law, you may be appointed to this title as a permanent competitive employee.
  • For CSEA positions: Local Bidding Agreements will be honored.

Paid Holidays and Leave:
° Thirteen (13) paid holidays each year. ° Thirteen (13) days of paid vacation leave initially. ° Five (5) days paid personal leave each year. ° Thirteen (13) days of paid sick leave each year (PEF/CSEA), which may carry over from year to year. ° Up to three (3) days professional leave each year to participate in professional development events.
    Health Care Coverage:

      Paid Parental Leave:
      Paid Parental Leave allows eligible employees to take up to 12 weeks of paid leave at full pay for each qualifying event. A qualifying event is defined as the birth of a child or placement of a child for adoption or foster care.
