As per Civil Service Standards and Specifications. Must have taken and passed the required Plant Utilities Engineer 2 State Civil Service Exam and be reachable on the appropriate Civil Service list. 70.1 Transfers are encouraged to apply. 70.1 Transfer Candidates must have been appointed from a Civil Service List and have served permanently in an appropriate title(s) for one year. Transfers must be within two salary grades. Ability to climb, stoop and do moderately heavy lifting/moving. Candidate must be able to perform the physical tasks of the position such as bending, lifting, stretching and climbing. Must have the ability to work in confined spaces and from a ladder, scaffolding or man lift over ten feet in height. Must have, keep and maintain the appropriate valid NYS Driver's License; have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations. To qualify for this position, the selected individual must successfully pass a pulmonary function test to certify them to wear protective equipment; for example respirators. The Plant Utilities Engineer 2 supervises Plant Utilities Engineers 1 and others engaged in the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, testing and calibration of mechanical and electrical distribution in the most efficient and safe way possible. Incumbents are working Supervisors and as such, perform any task in the Plant Utilities Engineer trade. The selected candidate will be responsible for the following: • Supervises shift operations. Perform maintenance procedures on mechanical plant systems and associated equipment. This includes pumps, fans, pneumatic controls, pressure-reducing valves, compressors, chemical testing and treatment processes, operational recordkeeping, boilers, chillers, and cascade systems. Provide Staff supervision for department work scheduled and assignments, including ongoing preventative maintenance programs, upkeep and repair of equipment for mechanical and electrical systems. Observe and inspect work while in progress and when completed. Ensures the proper use of materials, workmanship, and safety regulations are carried out and relevant codes are followed. Ensure schedules are met and that work is performed according to plan. Maintain written procedures and required records of plant operations activities, such as energy consumption, equipment malfunction, meter and gauge readings and preventative maintenance. Respond to calls, in the event of an emergency as needed concerning mechanical, electrical or plumbing breakdowns inside the power plant, then troubleshoots these problems and make the necessary repairs. Prepare standard written performance evaluation, verbal and written counselings, and training. Prepare, review and sign employee's timesheets. Handle various types of hazardous materials, such as refrigerants, Freon, fuel, oil, antifreeze, solvents, and caustic soda. Work in confined space situations using personal protective equipment and supervise others working in confined spaces. All other duties assigned as determined by rank and department mission. This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week. Shift for this position will be Relief Shift:
Monday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday 4:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. and Saturday and Sunday 12:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m., 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Pass days Thursday and Friday. FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Mandatory rehire roster candidates have preference. SG 16 Hiring Rate $63,136. This position includes location pay of $4,000 per year. The selected candidate must successfully clear a background investigation.
