Job Description

System Engineer Northwestern Rural Electric Cooperative (Northwestern REC) is looking for a System Engineer who wants to apply technical expertise to real-world system performance, reliability, and modernization. In this role, you'll work on critical distribution and substation projects, support technologies like SCADA and AMI, and help shape solutions that directly impact the communities we serve. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys practical problem-solving, cross-functional collaboration, and seeing the results of their work in the field. What You'll Do Support and improve SCADA, AMI, and substation systems that are essential to reliable electric service. Contribute to substation design, protection settings, and equipment coordination across the system. Analyze engineering data, technical plans, and system needs to support sound design and operational decisions. Work closely with field crews, consultants, and internal teams to deliver projects and drive system improvements.• Provide technical support during outages, storm response, and restoration efforts when reliability matters most.
What We're Looking For Education:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related power systems field.
Experience:
Utility experience is preferred, especially in substation design, distribution design, or system protection and coordination. Knowledge of electric distribution systems and engineering standards is preferred. Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and work collaboratively across teams. Willingness to support after-hours outages and storm restoration when needed. Valid Pennsylvania driver's license, or ability to obtain one shortly after hire. Why Join Northwestern REC?
