Electrical Engineer, Power Electronics Engineer — Focus on Marine Power Systems Testing Primary Responsibilities The electrical engineering role will provide you with the opportunity to develop your career and skills, and get some exciting experiences, including: Support Advanced Power System Testing for Marine Electric Plant programs Perform system‑level testing of high‑voltage power electronics equipment Assist in design and analysis for new naval power electronics initiatives Collaborate with SMEs, vendors, and the ship's force to sustain, verify, and validate power systems Participate in shipboard and lab testing to support troubleshooting and maintenance activities Responsibilities Test Power Electronics Equipment, including relays, rectifiers, inverters, AC‑AC and DC‑DC converters, switchboards, circuit breakers, bus‑tie breakers, motor drives, and UPS systems Review and update electrical drawings, schematics, and system documentation for power systems from 450VAC to 13.8kVAC or up to 1000VDC Create, execute, and refine test procedures for system level validation Analyze test data, identify and document issues, support estimation and negotiation for resolutions Troubleshoot and diagnose issues in existing shipboard electrical systems Prepare engineering analyses and technical manuals Participate in design reviews and evaluate OEM test results and ensure compliance with Navy requirements Follow safety protocols and use proper electrical safety equipment Travel up to 25% for shipboard testing, troubleshooting, and field support Must be on-site at the Philadelphia Navy Yard 4-5 days/week, depending on testing lifecycle Support maintenance oversight by coordinating with government, contractors, and vendors Required Education, Skills, and Experience BS or MS in Electrical Engineering or Electrical & Computer Engineering No other degrees accepted per contract requirements 3-5 years of experience in electrical engineering with a focus on system level power electronics Experience with at least two of the following: Rectifiers, inverters, converters, transformers, IGBTs, harmonic filters, UPS, controllers, relays Experience with high‑voltage 3‑phase systems (450V+) + three‑phase systems (4160VAC / 1000VDC / 13.8kVAC preferred) Ability to clearly explain technical experience, steps, metrics, and results Strong verbal and written communication skills U.S. Citizenship required Ability to obtain a Secret clearance (active clearance preferred) Demonstrated commitment to long-term projects Experience at the application level (e.g., power plants, solar plants, battery systems, substations, electric propulsion).
