Job Description

Avionics System Design and Integration Engineer HighQ Aero Englewood, CO Job Details Full-time $105,000 - $155,000 a year 16 hours ago Benefits Paid holidays Relocation assistance Paid time off Flexible schedule Qualifications Customer communication Teamwork Project engineering Troubleshooting electrical systems Embedded software Design engineering Systems engineering Technical troubleshooting support Electrical Engineering Hardware diagnostics Cross-functional communication Full Job Description Overview HighQ is proving that cutting-edge avionics designs don't require multi-year timelines or legacy aerospace bureaucracy. We bring bespoke avionics designs to first-of-a-kind experimental aircraft and spacecraft—delivering the system architecture, custom electronics, and embedded software that mission-critical programs demand, all from a single integrated team. If you're an engineer who wants to do full-stack work—not just a piece of it—this is the place. You'll design end-to-end digital flight systems that combine high reliability with rapid iteration. You'll own problems from architecture through deployment. You'll work directly with customers and see your designs fly. And you'll do it alongside people who've already proven themselves on hard problems in aerospace, and are building the next generation of solutions. For engineers who refuse to be siloed, or those that can't accept the traditional aerospace timeline, HighQ is where you belong. Roles & Responsibilities We are seeking an Avionics System Design & Integration Engineer to join our collaborative team in creating innovative aerospace and industrial systems. The ideal candidate is an early or mid-career engineer with strong fundamentals, genuine curiosity, and the determination to learn through hands-on experience. You'll work alongside experienced engineers who are passionate about mentoring the next generation.
Additional desired qualities include:
Familiarity with aviation, piloting, and aircraft Experience with full-cycle engineering design, including modeling, building, testing, analysis, and documentation Eagerness to learn and teach; ability to communicate complex technical concepts and share knowledge with others Strong background in electrical engineering fundamentals, mechanical design, or aerospace engineering Hands-on experience building and troubleshooting hardware in a lab or field setting Comfort working across disciplines — from circuit design to mechanical packaging to software interfaces In addition, specific project assignments will be tailored to your background and our current client needs. The following are examples of common responsibilities at HighQ, although experience is not necessarily required in any of the following: Avionics & Electrical Design Design avionics systems and subsystems, develop aircraft power distribution and control architectures, perform electrical load analysis, select components and design circuits, create electrical schematics and wiring diagrams, and design custom PCBs for avionics and instrumentation applications. Instrumentation & Data Systems Design and integrate sensor and instrumentation systems, develop data acquisition and telemetry hardware, work with analog signal conditioning and digitization, support integration of data logging and network data transport systems, and validate instrumentation system performance against requirements. Lab Build and Testing Build up avionics and electrical systems in a lab environment, develop and execute test procedures, perform system-level integration testing, debug and resolve hardware and interface issues, and validate system performance prior to vehicle integration. Vehicle Integration Support the transition of lab-verified systems onto aircraft or spacecraft, troubleshoot issues encountered during vehicle-level integration and testing, and work closely with customers and other engineering disciplines to ensure successful system bring-up. Project contribution Take ownership of electrical subsystems and deliverables, contribute to project planning and timeline development, participate in customer technical discussions and design reviews, support development of electrical engineering standards and best practices, mentor junior team members on electrical design challenges, and ensure successful delivery of electrical systems. Required Experience Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent, along with 2+ years of experience in design and development activities. Strong understanding of electrical fundamentals including circuit analysis, power systems, and control concepts. Experience with avionics, instrumentation, or data acquisition systems. Hands-on experience building and troubleshooting electrical hardware in a lab or field environment. Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities. Excellent communication skills for team collaboration and customer interaction. Bonus Points Aviation or piloting experience. Familiarity with aircraft electrical systems, avionics, or aerospace industry standards. Familiarity with CAD tools and basic mechanical design principles. Knowledge of power electronics, battery management systems, motor control, or RF systems. Experience with hardware design for high reliability and DO-160 compliance. Experience with hardware and software microcontroller design and deployment. Culture & Benefits HighQ offers competitive compensation, holidays and paid time off, a flight training bonus program, and a flexible work environment that truly supports work-life balance. We believe in providing opportunities for professional growth through challenging projects, mentorship from experienced engineers, and exposure to cutting-edge aerospace technologies. Our collaborative culture values innovation, continuous learning, and the pursuit of excellence both inside and outside of work. Location Centennial, Colorado - We're based in the Denver metro area with flexible hybrid work arrangements that support our commitment to work-life balance. Get in Touch If the above sounds good to you, reach out to us with a resume and any documentation that shows you've built cool things or solved interesting problems — this could be academic projects, personal electronics work, robotics teams, or other hands-on engineering experience. Our work is too varied and, we think, too interesting to fit into standard job descriptions. If you get excited by the prospect of tackling diverse engineering challenges while maintaining time for your other passions, we'd love to connect.
