IBM Systems Engineer

Capstone IT is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer with expertise in IBM i (AS/400) environments to support, optimize, and maintain critical enterprise infrastructure. This role will serve as a senior technical resource responsible for ensuring platform stability, performance, security, and scalability while supporting ongoing business operations. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity designed to accelerate onboarding. Candidates must be open to relocating to the client location within 12 months of conversion to a full-time employee. Relocation assistance is available. Key Responsibilities Administer, support, and optimize IBM i (AS/400) infrastructure and IBM Power Systems environments Analyze business and technical requirements and implement infrastructure solutions that improve performance, reliability, and security Monitor system health, performance, capacity, and availability while proactively identifying and resolving issues Troubleshoot complex infrastructure problems and serve as a senior escalation point for technical support Support system upgrades, maintenance, disaster recovery, and business continuity initiatives Coordinate with vendors and third-party support providers to resolve platform-related issues Create and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, and architecture diagrams Participate in on-call support and mentor junior team members as needed Required Qualifications Strong hands-on experience administering IBM i (AS/400) environments Experience supporting IBM Power Systems infrastructure Proven expertise in troubleshooting, performance tuning, upgrades, and system maintenance Experience with change management, disaster recovery, and operational support processes Strong communication skills and ability to work independently in complex environments Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent experience Preferred Qualifications Experience with Mimix high availability and disaster recovery solutions Experience with IBM PowerHA, backup/recovery, and business continuity planning Knowledge of IBM i security administration and auditing Exposure to AWS, Azure, or GCP environments Scripting, automation, or infrastructure modernization experience Why Join? Pay:

$60.00 - $67.00 per hour
