Job Description

Industrial Controls & SCADA Engineer Location:
Denver, CO (On-site required initially; hybrid eligible after 6 months) About WSI WSI is a designer and manufacturer of wastewater treatment and water recycling systems serving municipal, industrial, food & beverage, and oil & gas markets. We specialize in integrated treatment systems including DAF pretreatment and biological processes, delivering fully engineered, factory-tested solutions. Our projects span across North America and internationally, with a strong presence in locations such as Hawaii and Western Canada. Position Overview We are seeking a mid-level Industrial Controls & SCADA Engineer to lead the development of PLC, HMI, and plant-wide SCADA systems for packaged and site-built water and wastewater treatment facilities. This role offers end-to-end ownership of control systems—from PLC programming and HMI development through SCADA architecture, factory testing, commissioning, and cloud-based data systems. You will work from established control narratives and tagging structures while collaborating with process and design engineers to deliver complete, high-performance control systems. Key Responsibilities
PLC & HMI
Development
  • Develop PLC programs using Studio 5000 Logix Designer on Allen-Bradley CompactLogix systems
  • Design and implement HMI applications using: o FactoryTalk View Studio/ PanelView Plus o Optix o iX Developer/Beijer HMIs
  • Implement communication protocols including Ethernet/IP and Modbus TCP
  • Execute control strategies based on process narratives and system requirements SCADA System Development
  • Design and implement full plant-wide SCADA systems including: o Operator workstations and HMI network architecture o Data collection and historian systems (SQL-based) o Alarm management, trending, and reporting systems
  • Develop high-performance
HMI/SCADA
interfaces aligned with modern usability standards
  • Configure and integrate systems using OPC UA and standard industrial protocols
  • Implement secure remote access via VPN and web-based clients
  • Support cybersecurity best practices, user access control, and system reliability Cloud Data & Dashboard Systems
  • Develop and maintain cloud-based data pipelines and dashboards using: o Node-RED o InfluxDB o Grafana
  • Configure MQTT-based data transmission from field systems
  • Support infrastructure including Linux systems, Docker containers, VPNs (CloudConnexa / OpenVPN), and NGINX Testing, Commissioning & Startup
  • Lead Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) at WSI's Denver facility
  • Develop and execute test procedures for PLC, HMI, SCADA, and network systems
  • Travel for system checkout, commissioning, and process startup
  • Perform field troubleshooting of controls, SCADA, and communication systems Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
  • Work closely with process engineers, design engineers, and project managers
  • Provide input on control strategies to improve system performance and operability
  • Support legacy systems (including limited Mitsubishi GXWorks platforms) Travel Expectations
  • Travel varies based on project phase
  • Periods of minimal travel interspersed with commissioning trips (~2 weeks typical)
  • Projects may include travel to locations such as Hawaii and Canada QualificationsRequired
  • Experience programming Allen-Bradley PLCs (CompactLogix)
  • Experience developing HMI systems
  • Ability to independently execute controls systems from design through commissioning Preferred
  • Experience developing SCADA systems (architecture, historian, alarms, reporting)
  • Experience with cloud/data systems (MQTT, Node-RED, InfluxDB, Grafana)
  • Electrical Engineering degree or similar technical background
  • Experience with industrial water/wastewater or similar process systems
  • Familiarity with networking, VPNs, and Linux-based systems Work Environment
  • Based in Denver, CO
  • On-site required during onboarding and Factory Acceptance Testing periods
  • Hybrid schedule available after 6 months (3 days in-office / 2 remote) Compensation & Benefits
Salary Range:
$90,000 - $125,000 (depending on experience)

Pay:
$90,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
