Job Description
## The group you'll be a part of In the Global Products Group, we are dedicated to excellence in the design and engineering of Lam's etch and deposition products. We drive innovation to ensure our cutting-edge solutions are helping to solve the biggest challenges in the semiconductor industry. ## The impact you'll make As a Laboratory Service Engineer 3 - RF Systems, you will play a critical role in supporting and advancing Lam's RF and plasma technology development in a fast‑paced R D lab environment. This role goes beyond routine lab support—you will work hands‑on with high‑power RF subsystems, vacuum hardware, and prototype semiconductor equipment, directly contributing to concept, feasibility, and next‑generation product development. Your expertise will help ensure safe, reliable, and repeatable operation of complex RF systems used in etch and deposition applications. ## What you'll do
- Operate in an R D laboratory environment performing preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, upgrades, and calibration of RF, electrical, electromechanical, and vacuum equipment.
- Assemble, test, calibrate, and diagnose high‑power, high‑voltage RF subsystems, including RF matching networks, sensors, and associated electronics.
- Perform system‑level to PCBA‑level failure analysis, including board‑level validation, functional testing, and SMD rework as required.
- Utilize advanced laboratory instrumentation such as VNAs, oscilloscopes, power meters, and digital multimeters to support RF characterization and troubleshooting.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, fluidic, and vacuum‑based subsystems used in semiconductor processing equipment.
- Support prototype equipment installation, bring‑up, and validation; develop and maintain procedures, test plans, and technical documentation.
- Partner closely with cross‑functional teams—including hardware engineering, process development, manufacturing, QA, firmware, and software—to support R D activities, customer demos, NPI builds, and release milestones.
- Manage and maintain RF laboratory infrastructure, including equipment calibration tracking, inventory control, prototype/sample management, and lab organization.
- Ensure safe handling of high‑voltage RF systems, hazardous gases, and liquids by following required safety, ESD, and cleanroom protocols and using appropriate PPE.
- Communicate priorities, issues, and test results clearly and proactively across multiple parallel tasks and stakeholders. ## Who we're looking for Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field with 2+ years of relevant experience; or
- Associate's degree in a technical field (electronics, RF, or equivalent) or equivalent military training with 4+ years of relevant hands‑on experience; or
- Equivalent industry experience supporting RF, electrical, or semiconductor equipment in an R D or lab environment. ## Preferred qualifications
- Strong hands‑on experience with high‑power RF subsystems, RF matching networks, sensors, and calibration techniques.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot complex electrical, electromechanical, fluidic, and vacuum systems at both system and board level.
- Proficiency with lab and test equipment including VNAs, oscilloscopes, power meters, DMMs, and related RF instrumentation.
- Experience performing board‑level debug, component‑level rework, and root‑cause failure analysis.
- Familiarity with semiconductor capital equipment, RF power delivery systems, or plasma processing tools.
- Experience supporting prototype development, validation testing, and New Product Introduction (NPI) activities.
- Ability to work in cleanroom and lab environments while wearing required safety or cleanroom attire.
- Strong organizational skills with experience managing lab assets, calibration schedules, and engineering testbeds.
