Job Title:
Substation Engineer Job Description As a Substation Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and ensuring the reliability and safety of electric substation, transmission line, and generation equipment control systems. You will specify substation equipment and design protective relay systems, metering, and SCADA. Your role involves gathering and analyzing system ratings and producing detailed project scopes and cost estimates. You will support operations and construction personnel in technical duties and ensure that installations conform to requirements. Responsibilities Perform design related to electric substation, transmission line, and generation equipment control systems and fault protection systems. Specify substation equipment using substation ratings to ensure reliability and safety. Design protective relay systems, metering, and SCADA by referencing standards, regulations, and system requirements. Gather and analyze system ratings to provide data to reporting agencies and meet new system requirements. Produce detailed system protection and control project scopes and cost estimates for multi-year projects. Support operations and construction personnel in troubleshooting, failure analysis, and technical duties. Prepare and study technical drawings and specifications of electrical systems to ensure compliance. Direct designers and technicians by reviewing work and monitoring progress to ensure compliance with safety and regulations. Essential Skills Substation design expertise Knowledge of electrical engineering principles and advanced mathematics Understanding of schematic, wiring, and logic diagrams Ability to develop elementary drawings and relay logic for system protection designs Proficiency in AutoCAD Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, and databases Additional Skills & Qualifications Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an ABET-accredited program Utility experience related to electric substation, generation, and transmission line equipment control Knowledge of generation, transmission, and distribution system relays and protection schemes Dependable, self-motivated, detail-oriented with excellent organizational and proofreading skills Ability to communicate effectively with other personnel Ability to handle multiple priorities and operate efficiently in a high-stress environment Work Environment The work environment involves engaging with both design and technical teams to ensure the successful completion of projects. The role may require the handling of multiple priorities and operating in a high-stress environment. Proficiency in various software tools, including AutoCAD, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases, is preferred. The position requires effective communication and collaboration with different departments to achieve project goals. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Wichita, KS. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $43.33 - $80.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
