As a Substation Engineer , you'll play a critical role in designing, maintaining, and improving protection and control (P&C) systems across substations, transmission networks, and generation assets. What You'll Do Design protection and control systems for substations, transmission lines, and generation facilities Develop relay schemes, metering configurations, and SCADA system designs Specify substation equipment based on system needs and operating conditions Analyze system performance data to identify improvements and support planning efforts Develop project scopes, schedules, and cost estimates for capital projects Support construction, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities in the field Review and approve engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documentation Mentor designers and technicians while ensuring design quality and compliance What You Bring Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET-accredited) Experience in a utility or closely related environment (substation, transmission, or generation) Strong knowledge of protection schemes, relaying, and control systems Hands-on experience with substation P&C design and relay logic Ability to read and develop schematics, wiring diagrams, and protection drawings Proficiency with AutoCAD and standard engineering design tools Make an Impact Where It Counts If you're looking to do meaningful engineering work, grow your technical depth, and contribute to the evolution of the power grid—this is your opportunity to step into a role where your expertise truly matters. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Topeka, KS. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $43.33 - $80.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
