Your engineering decisions directly support system reliability and the communities we serve. Key Responsibilities Design protection and control systems for substations, transmission lines, and generation facilities, including fault protection systems. Specify substation and control equipment based on system ratings and operational requirements. Develop and maintain protective relay schemes, metering, and SCADA designs in alignment with standards and regulatory requirements. Analyze system data and ratings to support planning, reporting, and evolving system needs. Create detailed project scopes, schedules, and cost estimates for capital projects. Provide technical support to operations and construction, including troubleshooting and failure analysis. Prepare, review, and approve technical drawings and specifications. Guide and support designers and technicians by reviewing work, providing feedback, and ensuring safety and quality standards are met. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program. Experience supporting a utility environment with substation, generation, or transmission control systems. Strong working knowledge of protection schemes and relays for generation, transmission, and distribution systems. Experience with substation protection and control design. Solid understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals, power system analysis, and advanced mathematics. Ability to interpret and develop schematic, wiring, logic, and elementary drawings. Experience developing relay logic and protection system designs. Proficiency in AutoCAD. Proficiency with standard business software (word processing, spreadsheets, databases). Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Topeka, KS. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $43.33 - $80.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
