This role combines detailed engineering, cross-disciplinary coordination, and technical leadership to deliver safe, reliable, and compliant transmission infrastructure. Candidates with a civil or mechanical engineering experience are preferred, with consideration given to electrical engineers who have relevant transmission line experience. Experience with California utilities and strong knowledge of California General Orders governing overhead electric lines and communication facilities are highly desirable. Responsibilities + Prepare comprehensive engineering calculations, specifications, drawings, and scope documents for complete construction packages. + Lead and coordinate design engineers and technical staff to deliver high-quality transmission line projects on schedule and within defined scope. + Review and validate technical reports, engineering studies, and design documents to ensure accuracy, safety, and compliance with applicable standards and regulations. + Coordinate closely with contractors, permitting agencies, and internal disciplines to align design intent with constructability, permitting requirements, and project objectives. + Provide construction and field support as needed, including responding to technical inquiries, addressing design issues, and supporting resolution of site conditions. + Apply sound project management practices to engineering activities, emphasizing quality, safety, schedule adherence, and effective risk management. + Contribute engineering expertise across multiple power delivery projects, supporting both new builds and modifications to existing transmission infrastructure. + Develop and refine transmission line models, route alignments, and plan and profile drawings using specialized design software. + Produce assembly, framing, loading, and design drawings for wood, concrete, steel, FRP, and lattice structures, including towers and poles. + Interpret survey, GIS, and geotechnical data and incorporate it into transmission line designs, including foundation design and embedment calculations. + Collaborate with electrical engineers and other disciplines on related studies such as grounding, fault current, EMF, contaminants, and clearance analysis. + Communicate complex engineering concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, supporting informed decision-making throughout the project lifecycle. Essential Skills + Minimum of 3 years of experience in transmission line engineering or closely related power delivery design work. + Proficiency in transmission line design using the PLS software suite, including PLS-CADD, PLS-Pole, and PLS-Tower. + Demonstrated ability to model transmission lines, develop route alignments, and produce plan and profile drawings. + Strong knowledge of high-voltage transmission line components, including conductors, hardware assemblies, structure detailing, and bills of material. + Experience developing assembly, framing, loading, and design drawings for wood, concrete, steel, FRP, and lattice structures, with a preference for lattice tower experience. + Ability to interpret geotechnical data for foundation design and embedment calculations. + Experience working with survey and GIS data and integrating it intoPLS-CADD
models. + Familiarity with related electrical studies such as EMF, grounding, fault current, contaminants, and clearance analysis. + Proficiency with L-Pile, MFAD, and Microsoft Office applications. + Familiarity with industry standards and codes including ASCE, ACI, IEEE, NESC, RUS, and GO-95 or equivalent California General Orders for overhead lines. + Self-motivated with strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively. + Proven ability to work collaboratively in team environments, manage workloads, and support stakeholder expectations. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience in civil or mechanical engineering, with consideration for candidates from electrical engineering who have relevant transmission line experience. + Experience working with California utilities or on transmission projects in California. + Strong technical communication skills, with the ability to explain complex engineering solutions clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. + Interest in growing into technical leadership or project leadership roles within power delivery and transmission line engineering. + Ability to contribute across multiple markets and large-scale infrastructure projects, adapting to varied technical challenges. Work Environment The work environment emphasizes collaboration, technical excellence, and professional growth within high-caliber engineering teams. Engineers work closely with supportive colleagues in a culture that values knowledge sharing, cross-discipline coordination, and strong project-level collaboration. The role offers exposure to complex, large-scale infrastructure projects across multiple markets, providing variety and technically meaningful work rather than repetitive or siloed assignments. Flexible work arrangements and a high degree of trust are common, especially for experienced professionals, enabling better work-life balance as engineers gain seniority and influence over how projects are executed. The organization supports long-term career development with multiple paths forward, including deep technical expertise, project leadership, and opportunities to explore new disciplines within power delivery. + This posting is for an existing vacancy.
