Job Title:
Transmission Line Engineer Job Description The Transmission Line Engineer role sits within the transmission department and focuses on the engineering and design of high-voltage transmission line projects. You will collaborate closely with senior engineers, in-house teams, and client engineers and designers to support utility customers. This position offers the opportunity to lead and contribute to projects from concept through construction, while developing technical expertise and mentoring others in a supportive, team-oriented environment. Responsibilities Perform engineering and design activities related to transmission line projects, including engineering analysis, route selection, material acquisition, structural and foundation design, and project and construction management. Prepare comprehensive project construction documents such as plan and profile drawings, detailed design drawings, engineering specifications, material and construction specifications, project schedules, and bills of material. Develop and evaluate project design alternatives and prepare corresponding cost estimates to support decision-making and project planning. Design new transmission facilities across a wide range of voltages, from 12 kV up to 765 kV, in alignment with project requirements and industry standards. Utilize

to model and analyze transmission line design projects, ensuring accuracy, safety, and constructability. Conduct contractor bid and construction meetings and assist in ensuring that work activities are performed safely, in accordance with plans, established schedules, internal policies, rules, standards, and applicable external regulations. Coordinate effectively with governmental and regulatory agencies, as well as contractors, to secure necessary project permits and approvals. Provide leadership to facilitate timely project completion, including training and mentoring other engineers and helping to develop measurable work area goals and objectives. Function as a project lead for transmission projects, managing technical scope, coordinating tasks, and supporting successful project delivery. Coordinate work activities of others within the work group and department to ensure that transmission projects progress efficiently and meet quality expectations. Provide training and guidance to lower-level employees, supporting their professional development and ensuring consistent design practices. Initiate corrective actions when substation-related project objectives or milestones are not being met, working with stakeholders to address issues and keep projects on track. Work under the supervision of higher-level engineers, seeking guidance as needed while progressively taking on more responsibility. Conduct occasional site visits to support design validation, construction activities, and project coordination. Essential Skills Two to five years of experience in utilities working with transmission line design. Two to five years of experience completing engineering projects from start to finish, including planning, design, and implementation. Two to five years of experience scoping, estimating, and ordering materials for transmission line projects. Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Electrical Engineering; a degree from an ABET-accredited program may count toward years of experience. Proficiency in transmission line design principles and practices across a range of voltages. Hands-on experience using
PLS-CADD
for transmission line modeling and design. Experience with design engineering in a utility or related engineering environment. Knowledge of high-voltage transmission systems and related design considerations. Ability to prepare detailed engineering drawings and documentation using tools such as AutoCAD. Strong civil engineering fundamentals as they relate to transmission line structures and foundations. Ability to lead aspects of projects and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams. Strong communication skills to interact with clients, internal teams, contractors, and regulatory agencies. Additional Skills & Qualifications Engineer-in-Training (EIT) license is desirable but not required. Experience working with both in-house and client engineers and designers on utility projects. Familiarity with project and construction management processes for transmission projects. Experience coordinating with governmental and regulatory agencies to obtain permits. Ability to conduct contractor bid and construction meetings and support field activities. Demonstrated ability to mentor and train junior engineers and designers. Comfort working under the supervision of senior engineers while taking initiative to solve problems. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, schedules, and deliverables. Commitment to safety, quality, and compliance with internal standards and external regulations. Interest in contributing to critical engineering initiatives that support how utilities serve their customers. Work Environment The role is based in a professional engineering office environment that is generally quiet and conducive to focused technical work. Designers and engineers typically share a cubicle, often paired with a more senior designer to encourage collaboration and mentoring. The dress code is business casual. Teamwork is highly encouraged and occurs frequently, with regular interaction among engineers, designers, and other project stakeholders. The work involves extensive use of engineering software such as PLS-CADD and AutoCAD, along with standard office productivity tools. Occasional site visits are required to support field verification, construction coordination, and project oversight. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Tulsa, OK.
