Description:
The
PLC/SCADA
Integration & Commissioning Engineer supports paint shop automation by defining, validating, and commissioning interfaces and data exchange between PLC-based equipment and the SCADA system. This role works closely with paint shop planning, shopfloor IT, equipment suppliers, and operations/maintenance teams to ensure reliable line tracking, material flow control, quality data capture, and complete technical documentation through startup and acceptance testing. Key Responsibilities Partner with paint shop planning and shopfloor IT to drive automation topics requiring
PLC/SCADA
support. Clarify and document paint shop automation use cases with suppliers and stakeholders. Define and align data exchange, telegram structures, and material-flow control concepts (including rework area ntegration and automated guided vehicles where applicable). Support definition and alignment of automation system procedures (e.g., paint mixing, paint application) and related controls. Define and align quality data to be collected by SCADA from automation equipment. Define and align conveyor/line tracking requirements (PLC hardware/software and interface to SCADA). Ensure proper technical documentation is created, collected, verified, and maintained.
Requirements:
Required Qualifications Experience supporting
PLC/SCADA
integration and commissioning in an industrial manufacturing environment (automotive paint shop experience preferred). Working knowledge of Siemens PLC ecosystems (STEP 7 Classic and/or TIA Portal) and WinCC (Flex and/or TIA). Ability to interpret and validate automation documentation (EPLAN, P&IDs, HMI screens, system layouts) and support acceptance testing. Understanding of industrial networking and communications (e.g., Profinet, Ethernet, OPC UA). Experience defining/validating data interfaces and production/quality data collection concepts. Strong collaboration skills with suppliers, IT, production, and maintenance stakeholders. Preferred Qualifications Experience with
VASS/VASS6
(or similar telegram-based interface standards) and conveyor/line tracking implementations. Exposure to SCADA platforms such as Legato Sapient (Germanedge) or comparable systems. Knowledge of Volkswagen (or comparable OEM) concepts/specifications for electrical equipment in paint shops and conveyor systems. Familiarity with project documentation tools (e.g., ProjectWise), CAD viewers (e.g., MicroStation), and requirements tracking (e.g., Jira). Knowledge of external standards and guidelines (DIN, machinery directive, fire protection) and occupational health & safety requirements applicable to U.S. industrial sites. German language proficiency.
