Job Description:
About Helix Earth We're building technology invented at NASA to solve one of HVAC's most overlooked problems: humidity. Our CEO Dr. Rawand Rasheed developed this technology while at NASA, was named to Forbes 30 Under 30 for Energy and Green Tech, and we're now commercializing it at scale. This is a rare chance to get in early on a clean tech startup with real traction. We're a growing team moving fast from prototype to production, and we're looking for engineers who want to build things that actually ship. The Role You'll own electrical and embedded control systems development for Helix MICRA™, our flagship retrofit dehumidification product, and next-generation platforms beyond it. This is a hands-on role spanning hardware design, embedded integration, certification, and manufacturing scale-up. You'll work directly with mechanical, firmware, and manufacturing teams at every stage. What You'll Do Design and develop electrical control systems for HVAC products and test equipment Develop embedded hardware platforms and support firmware integration for microcontroller-based systems Design wire harnesses, control panels, and system circuitry for prototypes and production units Select and integrate electromechanical components including relays, contactors, breakers, motors, pumps, and sensors Support embedded communication and controls integration using protocols such as UART, I2C, SPI, CAN, Modbus, or RS-485 Read, interpret, and create electrical schematics, PCB layouts, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings Troubleshoot electrical, controls, and embedded systems issues in lab and field environments Drive UL certification and electrical compliance documentation Support manufacturing scale-up through DFM improvements, assembly documentation, and production support Work with external vendors, suppliers, and contract manufacturers to accelerate development What You Bring Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field 7+ years in electrical or electro-mechanical system development Proven experience designing electrical control systems and embedded hardware Hands-on experience with industrial communication protocols: UART, I2C, SPI, CAN, Modbus, RS-485 Proficiency creating and reading electrical schematics, PCB layouts, and wiring diagrams Experience with PCB design, bring-up, debugging, and fabrication support Familiarity with analog and digital sensors, actuators, BLDC motors, pumps, relays, and contactors Experience troubleshooting with oscilloscopes, multimeters, logic analyzers, and data acquisition equipment Working knowledge of high-voltage AC systems and electrical safety practices Familiarity with UL standards and regulatory compliance processes Strong documentation habits and cross-functional communication skills Bonus points for: HVAC systems or industrial equipment controls background Experience supporting UL or other product certification efforts Startup or NPI environment experience Prior work with contract manufacturers Experience mentoring junior engineers or leading technical projects Why This Role You'll be joining at a stage where your decisions have direct product impact. The technology is real, the LOI pipeline is substantial, and we're targeting commercial launch in 2027. Equity is meaningful at this stage. The problems are hard, the team is small, and what you build will ship. Benefits Competitive salary + equity Health, dental, and vision insurance 401(k) with employer matching Flexible time off
