Job Description
A growing engineering organization is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead substation design efforts and support the development of a high-performing technical team. This role involves a balance of hands-on engineering, technical leadership, and client engagement, with responsibility for overseeing project execution and ensuring quality and compliance across deliverables.
The selected engineer will serve as a technical authority and sealing engineer for substation projects and provide mentorship to engineers and designers working on physical layout and protection & control work. This position reports to a senior regional leader and is based out of a Texas office in the greater Houston area (Katy vicinity).Key ResponsibilitiesProvide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers, designers, and CAD staff supporting substation projectsPlan, assign, and review work to ensure schedules, quality standards, and project objectives are metAct as a primary technical contact for assigned clients, supporting ongoing projects, maintaining satisfaction, and identifying future opportunitiesLead and execute substation engineering activities, including physical layout, protection and control design, and related studiesDevelop and review engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, and bid packagesPerform detailed plan and drawing reviews to verify accuracy, constructability, and design intentSupport field activities such as commissioning, relay testing, and startup assistance as neededGuide and train early- and mid-career project engineers to support technical growth within the teamPromote and support a strong safety culture by adhering to established standards and best practicesCollaborate effectively with internal teams, clients, and stakeholders at all organizational levelsUtilize standard office software tools to support documentation, reporting, and communicationPerform additional duties consistent with the role and level of responsibilityQualificationsBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering requiredFive to ten years of progressive experience in substation engineeringActive Professional Engineer (PE) license requiredDemonstrated expertise in multiple substation disciplines, including:
Physical / general arrangement designProtection and control systemsRelay settings and coordinationField support and commissioning
