Commissioning Technician

00/hr Heavy Overtime | Travel Covered Power the Grid from the Front Lines We're seeking experienced Commissioning Technicians to support utility‑scale substation and power system projects. This role puts you at the heart of critical infrastructure—planning, executing, and validating protection, control, and power circuits that keep the grid safe and reliable. If you enjoy hands‑on technical work, problem‑solving in the field, and working on high‑impact projects with strong earning potential, this is an excellent opportunity. What You'll Do As a Commissioning Technician, you'll take ownership of commissioning activities from early planning through energization and close‑out.
Your responsibilities will include:
Planning, coordinating, performing, and documenting commissioning activities for utility substations Reviewing wiring diagrams, schematics, and engineering documents before project start Testing, troubleshooting, and analyzing protection and control systems and substation equipment Participating in kickoff, progress, and lessons‑learned project meetings Preparing detailed daily, weekly, and final commissioning reports with test results and recommendations Assisting with testing plans, commissioning procedures, and energization plans Identifying site risks and developing Site Risk Assessments to ensure safety Producing clear, detailed test reports for protection, control, and power equipment What We're Looking For 3+ years of experience in testing and commissioning, preferably in the electric utility sector Strong understanding of protection and control systems, including relay communications Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, schematics, and one‑line/three‑line diagrams Experience with medium‑ and high‑voltage substation or power plant equipment Familiarity with tools such as Doble Protection Suite, ProTest, and SEL AcSELerator (highly preferred) Valid driver's license and U.S. work eligibility Additional qualities that set candidates apart include experience with relay, SCADA, and apparatus testing; strong written and verbal communication skills; and flexibility to travel and work extended hours as needed. Work Environment & Schedule Work is project‑based, primarily across the North Texas area , with all travel expenses covered. Expect a demanding but rewarding schedule with 50-60 hours per week as standard, offering significant overtime and earning potential. This role may require extended travel, night work, weekends, and holidays depending on project needs. Pay & Benefits $65.00
  • 80.00/hr , based on experience. Eligible contractors may have access to medical, dental, and vision coverage; 401(k); life and disability insurance; HSA; paid time off; and an Employee Assistance Program. Eligibility may vary by assignment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Tyler, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $65.00
