Job Description

Job Overview Solar Industries Inc. started as a small window and skylight business founded in 1976 out of Tucson, AZ and has grown to a company with over 600 employees across 5 states. The company's manufacturing facilities and headquarters are based out of Tucson. As the company continues to grow, increase production, and expand its product lines, Solar Industries Inc. is looking to strengthen its engineering department. As a middle level engineer at Solar, you will be responsible for projects including research and development of new products, producing technical documents, testing, reporting, and quality control. You will work with national certification laboratories and international code councils to maintain certifications and standards our products require. Essential Responsibilities Work closely with engineering, manufacturing departments, and management to understand Solar Industries' products and production processes. Work with national laboratories and inspection agencies to update and maintain product certifications. Oversee quality control procedures and report quality issues to senior engineers. Assist engineering team with product development. Design and carry out tests for R&D and quality control. Work with vendors to report quality issues and develop new products. Ability to comprehend technical documents including test procedures, building codes, and specification sheets. Generate comprehensive technical reports with data from testing and market research. Manage product materials in company ERP system. Experienced with SolidWorks or other CAD equivalents. Experienced with Microsoft Applications and the use of computer resources to access specifications, engineering drawings, etc. Basic understanding of engineering concepts. Electrical, pneumatic, mechanical, thermal, and material properties. Ensure good housekeeping and all safety measures are maintained in the production area. Keep all company engineering records organized. Knowledge-Skills-Abilities Excellent technical writing skills. Provide examples. Understanding of the scientific method. Strong communication skills and reporting Strong CAD skills. Three plus years of work experience in any engineering field (i.e. manufacturing, production, design, etc.) Bachelors in engineering preferred. Ability to understand high volume production lines. Familiarity with automated and computerized processes. Average shift is Monday-Friday 6am-3pm or 7am-4pm with occasional overtime and occasional Saturdays. This position requires travel between our two manufacturing plants in Tucson, AZ and occasional out-of-town travel. Work Environment Work is performed in a warehouse/loading dock setting. Work may, on occasion, involve exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. Work environment involves minimal exposure to physical risks, such as operating dangerous equipment or working with chemicals. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger-handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. This job uses a computer, calculator, phone, copier, printer, and fax machine. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs.
