Job Description
Job Title:
Senior Test Development Engineer (NPI & Operations) Job Description The Senior Test Development Engineer (NPI & Operations) leads vendor testing and automated test fixture development within the System Electronics Development team. The role focuses on developing, deploying, and optimizing ICT, FCT, and end-of-line test solutions in close collaboration with supply chain, quality, and manufacturing teams. This position plays a key role in ensuring robust, safe, and highly available test processes that support new product introduction and ongoing operations in a fast-moving environment with breakthrough technology. Responsibilities Provide Design for Test (DFT) feedback to the engineering team and collaborate closely with design engineers throughout the product development lifecycle. Design and document robust electrical and functional test processes that deliver high safety, reliability, and uptime in manufacturing environments. Manage vendor development and deployment of In-Circuit Test (ICT) and Functional Circuit Test (FCT) fixtures, ensuring they meet technical and operational requirements. Define acceptance criteria for test stands and perform Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) on test equipment. Troubleshoot electronics end-of-line testers and resolve issues that impact test coverage, throughput, or reliability. Create, maintain, and own electronics test specifications and overall test strategy for PCBA and high-level assemblies. Work closely with Quality and Manufacturing teams to implement and execute the agreed test strategy across production lines. Execute Design Validation Plan and Report (DVP&R) test items and oversee manufacturing end-of-line tests to validate product performance and reliability. Build automated test fixture prototypes for prototype PCBA and electronics testing, including integration of instrumentation and software control. Collaborate with vendors and internal stakeholders to support equipment installation, validation, and NPI builds at domestic and international sites. Leverage LabVIEW, TestStand, and related tools to develop, maintain, and optimize automated test sequences and test frameworks. Analyze test coverage matrices to ensure comprehensive fault detection and continuously improve test logic and coverage. Review and optimize ICT test programs on platforms such as Keysight i3070 or Teradyne to enhance coverage, cycle time, and maintainability. Integrate test systems with MES and data infrastructure, including SQL databases and data serialization formats, to support traceability and analytics. Apply deep knowledge of automated instrumentation and communication protocols to design and maintain reliable, scalable test solutions. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field. 5+ years of manufacturing test experience in both PCBA (board-level) and HLA (high-level assembly) environments. Advanced proficiency in NI LabVIEW and NI TestStand, with the ability to design, implement, and maintain automated test sequences. Solid understanding of In-Circuit Test platforms, specifically systems such as Keysight i3070 or Teradyne, including reviewing and optimizing test programs. Strong experience analyzing test coverage matrices to ensure comprehensive fault detection and optimize testing logic. Experience using Python for automation scripting, data analysis, or instrument control in a test environment. Deep knowledge of automated instrumentation, including controlling DAQ systems, power supplies, digital multimeters (DMMs), and oscilloscopes. Strong understanding of communication protocols, including Automotive (CAN, CAN-FD), board-level (SPI, I2C, UART), and network protocols (Ethernet/IP, TCP/IP). Experience with MES and data integration, including working with SQL databases and data serialization formats such as JSON, XML, or Protobuf. Ability to provide Design for Test feedback and collaborate effectively with cross-functional engineering, quality, and manufacturing teams. Willingness and ability to travel up to 20% to domestic and international vendor sites for equipment installation, validation, and NPI build support. Additional Skills & Qualifications NI LabVIEW Certified LabVIEW Developer (CLD) or Certified LabVIEW Architect (CLA) certifications are a plus. Experience with inspection technologies such as Automated Optical Inspection (AOI), Automated X-ray Inspection (AXI), and Flying Probe is advantageous. Background in developing and deploying automated test fixtures for prototype PCBA and electronics testing. Experience executing DVP&R test plans and managing end-of-line test processes in a manufacturing environment. Strong documentation skills for creating clear test specifications, procedures, and acceptance criteria. Comfort working in fast-paced, growth-oriented environments with complex electronic systems and breakthrough technologies. Work Environment The role operates within a System Electronics Development team that collaborates closely with supply chain, quality, and manufacturing functions. The work involves frequent interaction with automated test equipment, ICT and FCT fixtures, end-of-line testers, and a variety of electronic instrumentation such as DAQ systems, power supplies, DMMs, and oscilloscopes. You will regularly use NI LabVIEW, NI
TestStand, Python, SQL databases, and communication protocols including CAN, SPI, I2C, UART, and Ethernet/IP for developing and maintaining test solutions. The position supports both new product introduction and ongoing operations, requiring occasional travel of up to 20% to domestic and international vendor sites for equipment installation, validation, and NPI builds. The environment is fast-moving and technology-driven, with a strong emphasis on safety, uptime, and high-quality manufacturing test processes.
