Product Development Technician Company Description Located in Dekalb Illinois, Wehrli Custom Fabrication is a small rapidly growing family owned and operated company. We specialize in the manufacture of high-performance diesel truck components, custom metal fabrication, and powder coating services. Product Development Technician Job Description:
With the growing sophistication of our engineering department, we are looking for a detail oriented and technically minded individual to aid in our product design, development, and manufacturing. Primary duties will consist of executing test activities for products and processes, utilizing reverse engineering tools, integrating products, and performing quality related tasks. To complete these responsibilities the proper candidate will be required to perform mechanical work, operate sensitive equipment, interpret technical documents, effectively record test results, and provide accurate reports. This role will also require the use of computer aided drafting (CAD) tools to interpret reverse engineering data, probing 3D models, and completing some design tasks. Additionally, an ideal candidate that builds their skills with us will have the opportunity to expand their product design or project execution responsibilities.Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field with 1-3 years of experience in product design, development, or manufacturing OR 3-5 years in a lab environment as a technician or related product development experience
- Experience using computer-aided design (CAD) tools (SolidWorks & CAMWorks experience is a plus)
- Experience reading and interpreting technical drawings (GD&T)
- Experience taking precision measurements (metrology)
- Experience in test procedure execution and reporting
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Know-how in the use of basic hand tools
- Ability to work independently or in groups, and be self-motivated
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities
- Proper workplace safety practices
- Be excited to learn and develop new skills!
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficient with Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Experience writing technical documents and reports
- Experience with internal combustion engine product design, development, and validation
- Experience setting up and operating data acquisition systems
- Experience in prevention & detection practices, and root cause analysis
- Experience in product life cycle management
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit and/or stand for long periods of time. The employee frequently is required to use hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls and climb or balance. The employee is required to walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl and to talk and hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.Job Type:
