New Product Development Engineering Intern (Summer 2026) This internship is a unique opportunity to gain new product development experience. This role will report to & be mentored by a Senior New Product Development Engineer within Worthington Enterprises' Building Products Innovation Team. Perform hands-on mechanical experiments in a laboratory environment Perform reviews of scientific or industry literature Research and report back on developments in strategic technology areas, manufacturing techniques, and potential vendors Reverse engineer competitive products, patents, and technology Plan & develop new test methods or procedures with safety in mind Collect test data, analyze test results, create written test reports Coordinate product testing with external testing firms or laboratories when a specific test requires outside help Participate in new product design reviews and brainstorming sessions Design test fixtures, specimens, or prototypes using SolidWorks 2023 (2D drawings, 3D parts, & 3D assemblies) Participate in consumer insight activities with customers, end users, or industry expertsREQUIREMENTS
Current junior or senior working towards a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (or related field) Must be able to lift 50lbs Must have reliable transportation; Mid-workday travel between laboratory location & corporate office location is required (3 miles), once daily maximum. Prior experience performing research of available literature Mechanical inclination and interest in hands-on problem solving, prototyping, and testing Prior experience safely using hand tools required Minimum of 3.0 GPA Able to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences Capable of handling multiple assignments at once Able and interested in independent problem solving with moderate direction 2D & 3D CAD software experience (SolidWorks preferred) Prior engineering intern/coop experience requiredSimilar remote jobs
