This is a hands-on, in-office role on a 15-person team — you will own the physical build and validation cycle, work closely with senior engineers on new product development, and serve as the point person for post-launch hardware investigations. We value engineers who take initiative, bring creative instincts to hardware problems, and can manage multiple workstreams independently. Core Responsibilities Mechanical Design & Documentation Design, build, and demonstrate physical prototypes (from hand-assembled proof-of-concept models to polished pre-production devices) that you'll put in front of clinicians, teammates, and senior leadership to show what the next generation of IBT hardware can do Produce engineering drawings and 3D models as formal design outputs within IBT's product development process (DHF) Maintain and revise mechanical design documentation in accordance with design control requirements Own Design Transfer to Manufacturing - packaging engineering design outputs (drawings, BOMs, assembly instructions, test records) into formal transfer packages that the production team can build from. Hardware Testing & Test Jig Development Build physical test fixtures and production test jigs for use by the manufacturing and production team Conduct bench-level hardware testing during new product development - continuity, functional verification, and light circuit validation using multimeters, oscilloscopes, and signal generators Support bring-up and integration testing of new hardware designs alongside the electrical engineering team Protocol Writing & Execution Write and execute hardware and software V&V protocols (including acceptance criteria, setup instructions, and data recording) and author formal test reports for regulatory submissions and design history files Author and execute hardware verification and validation protocols, including functional testing, environmental testing, and acceptance criteria documentation. Vendor & Component Management Establish and manage vendor relationships for mechanical components, off-the-shelf hardware, prototype fabrication services (CNC, 3D printing, etc), and production materials — including managing open purchase orders and lead times on behalf of the operations team. Support BOM management and component qualification as part of design outputs Non-Conformance & Quality Coordination Serve as the in-office coordinator for non-conformance reports - tracking open NCs, coordinating corrective actions with the engineering and quality teams, and ensuring timely closure. Support the Quality and Regulatory team (remote) with investigation documentation and root cause analysis for product non-conformances.
