Job Description
POSITION DUTIES
Responsible for interacting with customer R D and Manufacturing areas to develop and coordinate current production of new vehicle body in white (BIW) products, from early digital phase up to mass production, evaluating manufacturing processes and working with interdisciplinary teams to guarantee customer's drawing specifications are fully achieved and under Unipres production capabilities. Hybrid remote/in-office. Travel required up to 25%. Majority of travel is to domestic plants and suppliers in Alabama, Tennessee, Ohio, and Mississippi as well as to customer facilities in Ohio and Indiana. Occasional international travel may be required to visit plants and suppliers.Duties include:
Support Gas/BEV future vehicle models for major automotive manufacturers; Analyze BIW customer specifications and work with interdisciplinary teams to ensure those specifications are achievable; Analyze RFQ BIW parts feasibility in compliance with Unipres Engineering Standards to define parts production process, location and manufacturing capacity impact; Define initial stamping production process concepts supported by one step formability simulations; Evaluate the feasibility of stamping parts, with a primary focus on vehicle structural components (including, but not limited to, roof structures, rear, center, and front pillars, front side members, rocker panels, floor members, and wheel house assemblies); Generate stamping parts BL layout and strip layouts using Autoform or FTI; Examine and interpret Autoform andJSTAMP CAE
incremental formability simulations, identifying issues such as thinning, cracking or concerns related to spring back; Propose and negotiate with customer the most efficient stamping process such as PRG, TRF or TND based on part's strength, SPM, GD&T, layout, yield ratio and tooling investment; Analyze and generate the optimal stamping process concept for each structural component, such as Form, Draw, Hot stamping, Progressive, Transfer or Tandem process; Comprehend and assess all structural performance criteria, such as dimensional tolerances, material strength, welding performance, appearance etc. ensuring they align with Unipres capabilities; Define assembly lines concept and the investment associated at RFQ level; Establish the number of welding jigs, robots, manpower, sub assembly lines and inspection fixtures required to meet customer's production volume and quality specifications; Calculate assembly tact (Spot weld, Hand Jig, ARC Weld Robots… etc.); Interpret blueprints and manage customer's CAD data; Propose and modify CAD data with solutions that address formability issues in accordance with Unipres standards; Coordinate Design Reviews with interdisciplinary teams; Request incremental simulations, interpreting the results and generating countermeasures to solve formability issues such as thinning, wrinkling or cracking; Create or modify 3D models in Catia or NX to meet both UES and customer's specifications; Coordinate engineering changes for programs in digital phase or in current production; Perform drawing check activities at manufacturing plants to identify and countermeasure potential issues driven by part design; Keep track of customer milestones and guarantee parts design levels are kicked off accordingly; Support general customer's activities such as One floor meeting, Quality Reviews, DBS, NMRs, Production trials and provide engineering documentation as needed; Participate actively to achieve VA targets by proposing engineering changes to customers; Generate Drawings for Tier2 suppliers to follow as per UES, HES and other specifications; Monitor Data level for Suppliers' tool kick off activities at GO1 and Go2 timing; Create NAD to deploy internally all the engineering changes; Identify critical quality points and define parts validation method such as QA-A and PV testing; Manage and maintain BOM (Build of materials) in QuickBase; Generate visual project status reports for customers and Unipres management; Work with, coordinate or manage other Development engineers if required; Support Unipres MNFG plants on resolving quality problems.POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering or a related field. Requires 3 years of experience as a Development Engineer or related position in the automotive industry. Experience must include 3 years in each of the following: Project management and product design in the automotive industry; 3D modeling software, such as Catia and NX; Autoform or FTI to generate stamping parts BL layout and strip layouts; BIW assembly processes to include spot welding, MiG welding, projection welding and other fasteners applications (riveting, clinching, etc); and Product development in accordance with the development schedules of major automotive manufacturers (e.g. Honda, Ford, Nissan, etc.).LOCATION OF EMPLOYMENT
