Job Description

Description The Engine Controls Engineer will design and develop controls hardware and software for an engine reformer platform used within a gas‑to‑liquid synthesis system that operates on stranded methane gas. This role will lead the development of engine calibration software to optimize reformer performance when operating on biogas and other varying gas compositions. Responsibilities also include developing controls architecture that enables communication between multiple engine and industrial controllers, as well as designing and sourcing instrumentation, controls hardware, and 12V wiring harnesses. This position involves close collaboration with cross‑functional teams to ensure seamless integration of engine control software and hardware with the broader gas‑to‑liquid system. Ideal candidates will have a strong Mechanical Engineering background , preferably with subject‑matter expertise in engine calibration, and proven experience in powertrain control, operation, and testing. A passion for technologies that reduce environmental impact is essential. The role offers strong career growth opportunities as the system and operation continue to expand. Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and test engine control software for various fuel compositions and environments.
  • Conduct studies to identify and implement new sensors and actuators for both R D and field testing.
  • Implement enhanced fault detection and accommodation logic to improve system reliability and uptime.
  • Oversee installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of engine reformers at field sites.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, clients, and supplier engineers to ensure successful integration and system performance.
  • Provide technical support, expert guidance, and training on engine control‑related matters.
  • Lead or participate in safety and risk assessment studies related to engine software and system operation.
  • Prepare and review technical documentation including performance data, software builds, and wiring diagrams. Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field with a 3.0 GPA or higher.
  • Hands‑on engine calibration and testing experience.
  • Experience integrating controls software and hardware into complex systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with engineering analysis tools and software such as AutoCAD and the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Willingness to travel to design, manufacturing, and field test sites.
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience. Preferred Qualifications
  • GPA of 3.5 or higher.
  • MS or PhD in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or a related field.
  • Demonstrated success working collaboratively to deliver engineering solutions.
  • 3 to 5 years of professional experience in engine calibration and CAN communication.
  • Experience with in‑cylinder pressure measurement systems and other high‑speed data acquisition tool Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rockledge, FL.
Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $55.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
