Job Duties Commercial Drilling Engineer Foreman in St. Joseph, MN 56374 with additional required worksites located in Stearns County, MN, Monroe County, WI, Tama County, IA, Stark County, ND, and Brown County, SD. Conduct inspections of the truck, rig, equipment and tools at the start of each day to ensure safety in accordance with engineering and drilling standards. Maintain consistent records of ongoing drilling operations. Utilize knowledge of all current state and local codes pertaining to the project and operations to ensure safe and general operation of all equipment used during operations. Assist engineering and other Traut personnel in solving operating problems, such as troubleshooting any potential mechanical problems in the field. Visually and mechanically interpret soils encountered in drilling to recommend properly designed well placement and supplementary processes to enhance production. Responsible for keeping a balanced inventory with as minimal waste as possible, monitoring production rates, and planning rework processes to improve production. Assure that water samples labeled and properly recorded. Promote Traut Companies products and services. Follow all Traut Companies and DOT Safety Rules, Procedures and Policies. The position requires working on municipal, commercial, environmental, and geothermal well projects - drilling for water for a variety of reasons. While the role includes operation of drilling equipment, when necessary, the primary responsibility is inspection, oversight, technical evaluation, and compliance monitoring of drilling operations and related equipment. The position works with a Foremost DR24HD manufactured by Foremost Industries, as well as associated support equipment including compressors, mud pumps, casing handling systems, and heavy-duty drilling trucks. The drilling method used on projects is reverse circulation dual rotary drilling, which rotates drill pipe and casing simultaneously while circulating air or drilling fluid in reverse to remove cuttings from the borehole. This method is used to construct large-diameter and deep municipal water supply wells, commercial production wells, environmental monitoring wells, and geothermal boreholes. Conducting daily inspections of the drilling truck, rig, tools, and support equipment to ensure safe operation in accordance with engineering standards, drilling specifications, and applicable safety regulations Verifying compliance with current state and local codes governing water well construction, environmental protection, and jobsite safety Maintaining detailed records of drilling activities, production rates, equipment performance, and site conditions. Assisting engineering staff and field personnel in troubleshooting mechanical or operational issues. Monitoring drilling parameters and visually and mechanically interpreting soils and geological formations encountered during drilling to support proper well design, placement, casing depth, and production enhancement processes. Overseeing installation of casing and ensuring procedures are followed to prevent aquifer cross-contamination. Confirming proper collection, labeling, and documentation of water samples. Monitoring inventory levels, minimizing material waste, and planning rework procedures when necessary to improve production outcomes. Ensuring adherence to company policies and U.S. Department of Transportation safety rules and procedures. Projects involve drilling through soil, overburden, and bedrock formations to access groundwater aquifers for municipal water systems, public utilities, commercial groundwater production, environmental monitoring programs, and geothermal energy development. The position operates within the water well drilling and groundwater development industry, specifically in the areas of municipal infrastructure, environmental drilling, commercial water production, and geothermal systems. The work combines heavy equipment inspection, field compliance oversight, geological interpretation, and regulated groundwater well construction activities. •Domestic travel required a minimum of 4 nights per week to service client sites at unanticipated locations throughout Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, North Dakota, and South Dakota. Minimum Education Required Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Management, or a related field and two (2) years of relevant professional commercial drilling experience. In lieu of a Bachelor's degree, the employer will accept four (4) additional years of relevant professional commercial drilling experience. This position also requires the following experience: 2 years of experience with Rod Rig Operation including overseeing crew management and training and promoting employees in safety and operations; 2 years of experience drilling in excess of 1,000 feet vertically; 2 years of experience operating a Dual Rotary Reverse Circulation Drilling Machine or similar; 2 years of experience welding in the drilling industry; experience drilling a minimum of 4,000 feet in the drilling industry; experience utilizing understanding of and tracking of costs and income to assure drill rig revenues are meeting company goals and minimums; experience repairing and maintain drilling equipment including general motor service skills; experience providing leadership, instruction, and direction in mentoring of all drillers and crew members; experience overseeing drill crew management and interpreting company policies to facilitate In-Situ SAGD extraction and conventional well work; experience with explosives required to effectively perform open hole drilling methods; experience maintaining compliance with all governmental environmental regulations to advise and train site employees on safety and environmental procedures; experience utilizing CPR and AED knowledge; and experience utilizing communication and listening skills to make accurate, quick, & decisive decisions, as an efficient leader. Must possess or be able to obtain a hazardous materials license. Must possess first aid certification. Must possess a minimum of 10 hours of OSHA safety certification. Must possess or be able to obtain a 40hr Hazwopper certification within 60 days of hire. Must possess or be able to obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL). Must possess a driving record with no major citations in past 36 months prior to employment. Will accept any suitable combination of education, training, and experience.
