Job Description:
We are currently seeking highly experienced Mud Engineers to support operations in the North Dakota area. This position is ideal for self-motivated, safety-focused professionals with deep expertise in drilling fluids and a strong understanding of Permian formations. You will be responsible for designing, maintaining, and optimizing drilling fluid systems to ensure safe and efficient drilling operations. Preference will be given to candidates with a mud school certification from a major drilling fluids provider and demonstrated success working in Baken .
Responsibilities:
Provide on-site drilling fluid support to rig operations, including 24-hour coverage when assigned. Design, maintain, and monitor drilling fluid properties to meet well requirements. Conduct daily testing and adjustments of mud systems, including water-based, oil-based, or synthetic-based muds. Maintain accurate documentation and reporting of mud properties, volumes, losses, and chemical usage. Coordinate closely with rig personnel, drilling supervisors, and fluid providers to ensure alignment on mud plans and performance. Manage logistics and inventory of fluid products and additives. Troubleshoot and resolve mud-related challenges (e.g., loss circulation, wellbore stability, HTHP issues). Provide drive-by support to additional rigs as needed, including fluid checks and coordination. Comply with all HSE policies and client-specific safety programs.
Skills and Qualifications:
Completion of mud school through a major drilling fluids company (e.g., Baroid, M-I SWACO, Newpark, etc.). In-depth knowledge of drilling fluid systems, including their design, testing, and maintenance. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to make real-time decisions under pressure. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to collaborate effectively with rig crews and client personnel. Ability to work independently in remote locations, including night shifts and on-call rotation for 24-hour coverage. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation (required for drive-by rig support). Strong documentation skills; familiar with daily reporting tools and volume tracking .
