Job Description

The Senior Gas Turbine Combustion Engineer is responsible for the design, development, analysis, and optimization of gas turbine combustion systems. This role requires advanced technical expertise in combustion engineering, including combustor hardware design, combustion performance evaluation, emissions mitigation, and thermodynamic analysis. Candidates must have senior-level experience in gas turbine combustion system development, with strong preference for those with GE Frame 6B (6B) engine combustion experience. The engineer will provide technical leadership across cross‑functional engineering teams and support combustion system performance throughout the product lifecycle. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Lead the design, development, and modification of gas turbine combustor components, including liners, transition pieces, fuel nozzles, swirlers, cooling schemes, and fuel delivery hardware. Perform advanced combustion analysis including flame stability, emissions (NOx/CO), temperature profile management, pressure oscillations, and combustion dynamics. Evaluate and optimize combustion system performance for reliability, durability, emissions compliance, operability, and fuel flexibility. Conduct root‑cause analysis of combustion hardware failures, performance degradation, or operational issues; develop corrective actions and recommendations. Review engineering documentation such as 3D models, detailed drawings, CFD simulations, thermal analyses, and materials specifications. Work closely with mechanical, thermal, materials, and controls engineering teams to ensure integrated combustor system performance. Support validation testing of combustion hardware, including rig tests, engine tests, and field validation programs. Provide technical guidance to manufacturing, supply chain, quality, and field service teams on combustor hardware issues, repairs, and upgrades. Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, and reliability evaluations to ensure compliance with performance and safety standards. Collaborate with customers, field engineers, and service teams to address combustion system issues and support aftermarket solutions. Mentor junior engineers and contribute to developing internal technical capabilities in combustion engineering. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline. Senior-level experience in gas turbine engine combustion design or development. Strong understanding of combustion fundamentals, thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and gas turbine performance. Proficiency with combustion modeling tools (CFD), thermal simulations, finite element analysis, and relevant engineering software. Experience with combustor hardware development, testing, validation, and problem resolution. Strong analytical, diagnostic, and communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline Direct experience with GE Frame 6B (6B) gas turbine combustion systems is highly preferred. Experience with dry low emissions (DLE/DLN) combustion technologies. Familiarity with gas turbine materials, coatings, cooling technologies, and manufacturing processes. Background in fuel flexibility studies (natural gas, liquid fuels, hydrogen blends, etc.). Experience with rig testing, engine test campaigns, or field validation programs.
