Season:
September 2026 - May 2027 | Washington Yu Ying Public Charter School (220 Taylor St NE, Washington, DC 20017) | 1-2 hours/week About the Role Lead an Odin Wise Academy FIRST® LEGO® League Explore team of young engineers ages 6-10. You'll guide students through the fundamentals of engineering design, coding basics, and real-world problem solving, culminating in a "Show Me" poster and model presentation at an official FLL Explore Festival. Compensation (Stipend) Regionals (Sept-Nov/Dec): $900-$1,050 total stipend, based on experience and team assignment. What You'll Do Plan and run weekly 1-hour team sessions focused on LEGO® model building, motorized design, coding basics using LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Essential, and real-world problem exploration aligned with the season's theme. Guide students in developing their "Show Me" poster — presenting their ideas, solutions, and engineering process to an audience. Foster a positive, safe, and inclusive team environment rooted in FIRST®Core Values:
teamwork, discovery, and Gracious Professionalism®. Maintain team equipment and materials (SPIKE™ Essential kits, building sets, poster supplies) and keep them organized. Hold a weekly check-in with the FLL Robotics Supervisor and Director of Robotics to report team progress and surface any needs. Provide brief weekly updates to parents on student progress and upcoming dates. Travel to and supervise students at the official FLL Explore Festival (local, withinDC/VA/MD
area). Coordinate with Odin Wise HQ on any needs or issues, competition logistics and practice announcements are handled by admin. Occasionally support other Odin Wise robotics programs or STEM initiatives as needed. What You Bring Enthusiasm for working with young learners (ages 6-10) and making STEM accessible and fun. Prior coaching, mentoring, tutoring, or teaching experience preferred. Comfort with basic building and coding concepts; prior experience with LEGO® platforms is a plus. Strong facilitation skills and the ability to manage a small group of early-elementary-age students. Reliable transportation; availability for the FLL Explore Festival (local, typically a Saturday in March-May); ability to pass a background check; valid U.S. work authorization. Nice-to-Have Previous FLL Explore or FLL Challenge coaching or participant experience. Experience with LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Essential or WeDo 2.0. CPR/First Aid certification. Time Commitment Season (September 2026 - May 2027): 1 hour/week of team practice.FLL Explore Festival:
