Minimum Qualifications:
  • Meets eligibility requirements for Massachusetts DESE Vocational Technical Teacher Licensure in Electronics/Robotics (or related field).
  • Minimum of 5 years of recent, full-time experience in electronics, robotics, mechatronics, or a closely related industry (within the past 10 years, per DESE requirements).
  • Demonstrate expertise in electromechanical systems, automation, and troubleshooting.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior teaching or training experience in a vocational or technical setting.
  • Experience with PLC programming, robotics systems, and industrial automation.
  • OSHA 10/30
    Certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Strong background in mechatronics, including integration of mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
The Electronics/Robotics Vocational Technical Instructor provides competency-based instruction in accordance with the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) Vocational Technical Education Frameworks. The instructor delivers both theoretical and hands-on training in electronics, robotics, and mechatronics, preparing students for employment, post-secondary education, and industry-recognized credentials in advanced manufacturing and automation fields.
  • Develop and implement curriculum aligned with the Massachusetts DESE Vocational Technical Education Frameworks for Electronics/Robotics, including embedded academic standards (Math, Science, ELA).
  • Deliver competency-based instruction in electronics, robotics, and mechatronics systems, including PLCs, sensors, actuators, pneumatics, hydraulics, motor controls, and automated systems integration.
  • Utilize project-based and work-based learning strategies to reinforce technical, problem-solving, and employability skills consistent with the Massachusetts Work-Based Learning Plan (WBLP).
  • Prepare students for industry-recognized certifications relevant to electronics, robotics, and mechatronics.
  • Maintain a safe and compliant shop/lab environment in accordance with OSHA standards, Massachusetts Chapter 74 regulations, and district safety policies.
  • Assess student performance using both formative and summative measures aligned with DESE frameworks and report progress accordingly.
  • Integrate technical literacy, including programming (e.g., Arduino, PLC logic, robotics platforms), into instruction.
  • Participate in cooperative education (Co-op) programming, including student placement, monitoring, and evaluation in partnership with employers.
  • Collaborate with academic instructors to support integration of technical and academic competencies.
  • Maintain required documentation, including lesson plans, safety records, and student competency tracking, in compliance with DESE expectations.
Prepare lesson plans at least two weeks in advance. Establish and enforce a disciplinary code consistent with the student handbook which reinforces a professional atmosphere for the industry, as well as a safe learning environment. Prepare and/or assist in the development of a departmental budget. Maintain and update a department inventory. Responsible for meeting all administrative deadlines. Maintain the condition of all classroom/shop facilities. Supports efforts outlined in the School Improvement Plan. Perform all duties and functions as deemed necessary by the Superintendent, Administration, and his/her designee.
SALARY AND WORKING CONDITIONS
10 Month Position Salary according to the Teacher Contract - FY27 Salary Schedule (Range from $64,472 - $118,996 depending on experience, licensure & degree/credits)
