Job Description

Seeking a Robotics & Autonomous Systems Engineer to support advanced robotics, autonomy, AI/ML, and human-machine interface development efforts supporting next-generation defense and research initiatives at the Robotics Research Collaboration Campus (R2C2) operations site in Middle River, MD. This role will support the integration, testing, experimentation, and deployment of autonomous and robotic systems operating in complex and contested environments. The ideal candidate will possess hands-on robotics experience with autonomous systems, robotic platforms, AI/ML integration, ROS/ROS2 development, embedded systems, or multi-platform control systems. Candidates with backgrounds in defense robotics, autonomous systems, aerospace, research environments, or adjacent commercial robotics industries are encouraged to apply.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
EXPERIENCE:
2-5+ years of relevant experience in robotics, autonomous systems, AI/ML integration, embedded systems, or advanced software development. Experience developing, integrating, or deploying AI/ML solutions supporting robotics or autonomous systems, including model adaptation, reinforcement learning, perception systems, or real-time autonomous decision-making. Proficiency in Python and experience with robotics frameworks and middleware (ROS/ROS2 highly preferred). Practical experience with physical robotic platforms, sensors, control systems, or field testing of autonomous systems. Strong communication and customer service skills. Ability to present recommendations, technical reports, and findings clearly and accurately to peers, colleagues, and leadership.
CLEARANCE
Active U.S. Secret clearance preferred; candidates eligible to obtain and maintain a clearance will also be considered.
EDUCATION
Bachelor or higher in Robotics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a relevant technical discipline with a focus on robotics, autonomy, or control systems.
CERTIFICATION
Ability to obtain DoD 8570 IAT II certification (CompTIA Security+ CE or equivalent) within 3 months of start date.
DESIRED SKILLS
Experience supporting research, prototyping, experimentation, or rapid technology development environments is highly desired. Hands-on experience operating or testing autonomous vehicles, robotic platforms, or unmanned systems in outdoor/multi-terrain environments. Familiarity with Linux operating systems (Ubuntu and/or RHEL derivatives), embedded systems, or edge computing for robotics applications. Experience with embedded software development, real-time systems, or robotics hardware integration. Experience with Human-Machine Interface (HMI) design, human-robot interaction, or common control systems for multi-platform autonomy. Knowledge of DDIL communications challenges and autonomy in contested environments. Interest in operating autonomous vehicles and platforms. Familiarity with system and network automation or simulation tools supporting live, virtual, and constructive (LVC) experimentation.
Pay:
$100,000.00 - $140,000.00 per year
