Job Description

Robotics Engineer Location:
Highland Park, MI (Onsite)
Duration:
12-
Month Contract-to-Hire Rate:
$55-65/hr
Overview:
We are seeking a hands-on Robotics Engineer to support automation initiatives within a high-volume automotive manufacturing environment. This role will focus on designing, programming, and optimizing robotic systems to improve efficiency, quality, and throughput across the plant. The ideal candidate has experience working directly on the manufacturing floor and is comfortable troubleshooting and enhancing automated systems in real time.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, program, and deploy robotic automation solutions for manufacturing processes, specifically within seating or automotive assembly environments Configure and optimize industrial robots (e.g., FANUC, ABB, KUKA) for welding, material handling, and assembly applications Troubleshoot robotic systems, PLCs, and automation equipment to minimize downtime and ensure continuous operation Collaborate with manufacturing, maintenance, and quality teams to identify automation opportunities and implement process improvements Support installation, commissioning, and validation of new robotic cells and equipment Modify and enhance existing automation systems to improve cycle times, reliability, and product quality Develop and maintain documentation including work instructions, programming standards, and system schematics Ensure all systems meet safety, quality, and regulatory standards Provide technical support and training to maintenance and operations teams
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience) 3+ years of experience working with industrial robotics in a manufacturing environment Hands-on experience with robot programming (FANUC, ABB, KUKA, or similar) Strong experience with PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.) and HMI systems Experience with automation integration, sensors, and vision systems is a plus Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced production environment
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in automotive manufacturing, ideally seating systems or Tier 1 suppliers Knowledge of welding automation (spot welding, MIG/TIG) Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies Exposure to safety standards such as
OSHA, ISO, and RIA Work Environment:
Fully onsite role within a manufacturing plant environment Requires time on the production floor, including interaction with heavy machinery and robotic systems
Compensation & Benefits:
Competitive hourly rate (based on experience) Opportunity to convert to full-time after 12 months Exposure to cutting-edge automation technologies within a leading automotive supplier
