Robot Engineer III Warren, MI 48091
Full-time Full-time Position Description:
The Robot Engineer III is instrumental in the advanced development, programming, and commissioning of robotic systems for a wide range of applications, including material handling, spot welding, MIG welding, and glue/adhesive sealing. With 6+ years of experience, you will lead complex projects, optimize body-in-white processes, and drive cycle time improvements. Your expertise with leading robotic brands like FANUC, KUKA, and ABB will be critical in ensuring the success of our automation projects. Additionally, you will take ownership of key portions of our codebase and libraries, and mentor junior engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.Key Responsibilities:
Lead Development and Optimization of Robotic Systems:
Design, program, maintain, and optimize robotic systems for diverse applications including material handling, spot welding, MIG welding, and glue/adhesive sealing.Project Commissioning:
Lead the commissioning of advanced robotic projects, ensuring they meet stringent performance standards and operational requirements. Configure brand-new robots, including the setup of external axes such as linear tracks, turntables, and trunnions.Advanced Technical Support and Troubleshooting:
Provide expert-level technical support and troubleshoot complex issues to ensure optimal machine performance and minimal downtime.Comprehensive Documentation:
Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for robotic systems, including detailed schematics, programming guides, and user manuals.System Integration and Process Improvement:
Lead the integration of robotic systems with other automation components and continuously identify opportunities for process improvements, particularly in body-in-white applications.Cycle Time Optimization:
Analyze and improve cycle times to enhance overall system efficiency and productivity.Codebase and Library Ownership:
Take ownership of key portions of the robotic codebase and libraries, ensuring high-quality, reusable code.Mentorship and Leadership:

Meticulous attention to detail to ensure high-quality work and adherence to technical and safety standards.Education/Skills/Required Experience:
- B.S. degree in Robotics Engineering OR equivalent education or work experience.
- 6+ years of experience working in the automation field.
- Proficiency in programming platforms such as FANUC, KUKA, and ABB.
- Extensive experience in applications such as material handling, spot welding, MIG welding, glue/adhesive sealing.
- Experience configuring robots with external axes, multi-arm configs, and such.
- Familiarity with body-in-white processes and cycle time optimization techniques.
- Experience in working with robot programming software, such as ROBOGUIDE, WorkVisual, and RobotStudio.
- Experience commissioning machines, including I/O Checkout, Ethernet/IP device setup, and machine safety testing.
- Experience and knowledge of machine safety design and requirements, including robot safety, operator safety, programming various safety PLCs, and area scanners.
- Ability to read and markup electrical prints.
- Hands-on experience with electrical wiring and troubleshooting.
