This is a hands-on, execution-driven role where your designs go from concept to production and into the field. What You'll Do As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you'll lead the design and development of mechanical and electro‑mechanical subsystems that are central to our robot platforms' performance, cost, and reliability.
You will:
Design and develop innovative mechanical and electro-mechanical subsystems that deliver durable competitive advantage Generate new concepts and architectures to meet functional and performance requirements Define subsystem performance specifications and evolve them over time Create layouts, 3D models, sketches, and schematics to solve complex engineering problems Determine required analyses, models, and drawings—and drive them through release Lead subsystem development from concept prototype validation production Leverage lab and field test data to make informed design tradeoffs Perform root-cause analysis when designs don't meet requirements Collaborate closely with electrical, software, manufacturing, and system teams Lead and participate in design reviews (formal and informal) Plan and execute subsystem prototype builds and support full machine builds Own verification and validation testing at the subsystem level Partner with suppliers to achieve performance and cost targets Mentor junior engineers and designers throughout the development lifecycle Create and maintain engineering standards and design documentation that scale What Makes This Role Exciting Real hardware: You'll design machines that leave the lab and operate in real environments End-to-end ownership: See your work through from early concept to production launch Cross-functional impact: Tight collaboration with systems, electrical, software, and manufacturing engineering Technical depth: Complex electro-mechanical systems with meaningful design tradeoffs Leadership without bureaucracy: Lead technically, mentor others, and influence direction What We're Looking For Required Qualifications BS in Engineering (Mechanical or related) from an ABET-accredited university 3 years of mechanical design engineering experience Strong experience in new product development Proficiency with CAD (SolidWorks strongly preferred) Solid understanding of mechanical and computer-controlled electro-mechanical systems Expertise in: GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, and tolerance analysis FMEA and risk-based design Data-driven decision making and statistical analysis Ability to model and predict system performance using engineering fundamentals Strong written and verbal communication skills Self-starter who can manage ambiguity and drive solutions independently Preferred Qualifications MS in Engineering Project or technical leadership experience Six Sigma experience Experience creating engineering standards and best practices Who You Are A creative problem solver who enjoys tackling hard, open-ended engineering challenges Comfortable balancing performance, cost, reliability, and schedule Passionate about building robust products—not just elegant designs Motivated by impact, ownership, and continuous technical growth Why Join Us? Posted salary ranges are made in good faith.
