Their automation solutions support industries including aerospace, automotive, medical device manufacturing, and precision machining. The company designs and integrates advanced automated manufacturing systems incorporating CNC machining centers, robotics, vision systems, conveyors, and automated material handling technologies. Their equipment is utilized by some of the world's most recognizable manufacturers to improve productivity, quality, and operational efficiency. Position Overview Our client is seeking a Controls Engineer to support the design, integration, testing, and commissioning of automated manufacturing systems. This position offers an excellent opportunity for someone early in their engineering career who wants hands-on exposure to industrial automation, robotics, controls programming, and advanced manufacturing technologies. The team is open to considering recent engineering graduates with strong co-op, internship, or project experience in automation, controls, robotics, mechatronics, or manufacturing environments. Key Responsibilities Support the implementation and commissioning of automated manufacturing systems Assist with PLC programming, troubleshooting, and system modifications Support robot integration and programming activities using platforms such as Fanuc and ABB Develop and modify HMI applications Assist with machine vision configuration and testing Participate in system debugging during factory and customer-site commissioning Read and interpret electrical schematics and control system documentation Support I/O checkout, startup, and system validation activities Work closely with engineering teams, suppliers, and customers throughout project execution Help document system functionality and support creation of user manuals and technical documentation Participate in safety reviews and risk assessments Travel This role involves approximately 50% travel on average, with certain project phases occasionally increasing travel closer to 75%. Travel primarily occurs throughout North America and provides significant exposure to customer facilities, equipment startups, commissioning activities, and advanced manufacturing operations. Employees receive 1.5x overtime pay after 45 hours worked while traveling. Qualifications (Required) Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Automation Engineering, or a related technical field OR Associate's degree in Automation, Controls, Mechatronics, Robotics, or a related discipline with relevant hands-on experience Exposure to PLCs through coursework, internships, co-ops, projects, or professional experience Basic understanding of industrial automation systems Ability to read electrical schematics and technical documentation Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills Willingness to travel (Preferred) Experience with Allen-Bradley, Omron, or Mitsubishi PLCs Exposure to industrial robotics (Fanuc, ABB, etc.) Experience with HMIs, vision systems, or industrial networking Internship, co-op, or project experience within manufacturing, automation, robotics, or controls environments Compensation & Benefits Competitive salary based on experience Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage 401(k) with company match Paid vacation and holidays Annual profit-sharing bonus 1.5x overtime after 45 hours worked while traveling Structured training and mentorship from experienced automation engineers Career growth opportunities within a global manufacturing organization Work Authorization Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.
