The Robotics Engineering team is an Enterprise Level organization that is responsible for identifying, developing, and implementing Robotics and Automation technology into all areas of the Shipyard. Electric Boat is experiencing a period of unprecedented growth, with existing facilities undergoing renovations, new buildings under construction and more to follow. These state-of-the-art robotics and automated solutions allow Electric Boat to be the most valued provider of nuclear submarines while improving product quality, personnel safety and driving down critical construction costs and schedules. Robotics Engineering is seeking an Entry-Level / Semi-Skilled Engineer to join our team. The Robotics Engineering Group provides continued support to ongoing automation and robotic shipyard operations as well as addresses emerging construction and business needs. This organization focuses on developing robotic systems and applications to support production. The group is responsible for implementation, hardware / software selection, system / process expertise, and construction support. Group members serve as subject matter experts on robotics and automation and are a resource for identifying and exploiting robotics opportunities at Electric Boat. Robotic Engineering drives projects and new technology insertion, ensures requirements are met, develops procedures, procures machines, performs / tests capabilities, and implements robotic and automated systems.Core functionalities will include:
Identifying Robotic Opportunities in the Quonset Point, Groton and off-site facilities to include concept development, business justification and prototypes Developing System Specifications, Evaluating Industry Technology and Vendor Capabilities, Testing Requirements, Facility Requirements and Training Requirements Working with Vendors to Develop Custom Robotic Systems / Solution Performing hands on Robotic On-site Development and Capability Testing Developing Hardware, Creating Software, Programming and Writing Technical Documentation Implementing systems and providing deck-plate support of robotics and automation Work with Electric Boats' design and engineering communities to identify and recommend changes to take full advantage of automated manufacturing Leading projects and interfacing with multiple stakeholders from Engineering, Operations, Program Management and the Navy Customer Qualifications Required Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in Engineering or equivalent technical degree such as Robotics / Automation, Industrial / Manufacturing, Welding, Facilities, Systems, Mechatronics, Controls, Mechanical, Electrical, Software or equivalent technical degrees will be strongly considered Knowledge in at least one of the following areas: Robotics / Automation, Mechatronics, Programming, Simulation, Systems, Controls, PLC / HMI, Software, Networking, Industrial / Facilities, Manufacturing, Cutting, Welding, Coatings / Preservation 1-5 Years post graduate engineering experience Preferred Knowledge / experience in robotics, industrial manufacturing processes Experience with industrial cutting, welding, coatings, automation or robotics Previous exposure to manufacturing / construction work Programming, Simulation, Modeling Experience Experience with multi-axis industrial robotic arms; ABB, FANUC, Universal Robots Familiarity with 3D Measurement Systems Familiarity with Groton and/or Quonset Point Operations Knowledge of shipbuilding / defense manufacturing Understanding of PLC Ladder Logic and or Visual Basic Previous project management experience Skills Ability to work independently while leveraging team, vendors and internal organizations. Ability to prioritize, execute and work well in a collaborative team environment. This position will offer a unique blend of opportunities and exposure to shipbuilding at EB. The position will require someone that is highly flexible who can transition from hands on robotic construction support to lab development and from strategic thinking to technical work. Training and mentorship will be provided. Opportunities to flex worksites and WFH can be provided based on shipyard needs, work assignments and management discretion. Regular training and travel opportunities will be available as part of this organization.
