Job Title:
Mechanical & Robotics Technician (RME) Job Description The Mechanical & Robotics Technician supports the Operations Maintenance team by installing, maintaining, and repairing material handling equipment, pneumatic systems, and automated packaging and distribution equipment. This role combines hands-on technical work with the opportunity to mentor junior technicians, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation of complex electromechanical and robotic systems throughout the facility. Responsibilities Promote a safe working environment by consistently following all safety procedures and encouraging safe practices among team members. Perform scheduled preventive maintenance routines on material handling equipment and related systems, and complete all required documentation accurately and on time. Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues on Material Handling Equipment (MHE), including belts, motors, photo-eyes, relays, and other system components, to minimize downtime. Install, maintain, and repair automated packaging and distribution equipment, ensuring systems operate efficiently and meet performance standards. Support the operation and maintenance of robotic and electromechanical systems, diagnosing and resolving basic input and output function issues. Use a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to receive, track, and close work orders, and to document maintenance activities and equipment history. Track, organize, and store department inventory, including parts, tools, and materials, to ensure availability for maintenance and repair activities. Maintain a positive and professional working relationship with colleagues across the operations facility, collaborating to resolve issues and improve processes. Mentor junior technicians by sharing technical knowledge, demonstrating best practices, and supporting their development in mechanical, electrical, and robotic systems. Move and handle items weighing up to 49 pounds as needed for maintenance tasks, using proper lifting techniques and equipment where appropriate. Stand and walk for shifts lasting up to 12 hours, and perform repetitive physical activities such as bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, twisting, and climbing as required by maintenance tasks. Travel up to approximately 20% of the time, as needed, to support maintenance activities or training at other facilities. Essential Skills High school diploma or equivalent. Ability to work flexible schedules, shifts, and areas, including weekends, nights, and holidays. Basic PC competency with at least 1 year of experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Ability to troubleshoot basic input and output functions on electromechanical and robotic systems. Capability to perform physically demanding tasks, including repetitive bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, twisting, sitting, standing, and walking. Ability to lift parts and tools weighing on average 20 pounds and occasionally up to 49 pounds. Strong eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity, including use of foot pedals and repetitive wrist and hand motions. Comfort working in environments that may include small spaces, dust, fumes or odors, hot and cold temperatures, indoor and outdoor conditions, noise, vibration, wet or uneven surfaces, and standing on concrete for extended periods. Additional Skills & Qualifications Associate degree or higher from a vocational school or college with a focus in mechanical or electrical fields. Project management experience, including planning, coordinating, and completing maintenance or improvement projects. Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to manage work orders and maintenance records. Experience with robotic or electromechanical system operation and maintenance. At least 2 years of experience with automated conveyor systems and controls. At least 2 years of experience in the repair of material handling equipment. At least 2 years of experience conducting predictive and preventive maintenance procedures. At least 1 year of experience in metal and wood fabrication. At least 1 year of experience reading blueprints and electrical schematics. At least 1 year of knowledge and practical application of electrical and electronic principles. Familiarity with Material Handling Equipment (MHE) safety standards in accordance with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) guidelines and applicable safety standards. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in a large operations facility that houses automated packaging, distribution, and material handling systems. You will work around conveyor systems, robotics, pneumatic equipment, and other electromechanical machinery, using tools and diagnostic equipment to perform maintenance and repairs. Shifts may be long, up to 12 hours, and include nights, weekends, and holidays, with some travel up to approximately 20% of the time. The physical environment can include small or confined spaces, exposure to dust, fumes or odors, varying hot and cold temperatures, indoor and outdoor areas, noise, vibration, wet or uneven surfaces, and extended periods standing or walking on concrete floors. The position requires adherence to safety procedures and appropriate use of personal protective equipment, with attire suitable for an industrial and maintenance-focused setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Holyoke, MA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $29.00 - $29.45/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
