Metrology Engineer, Solar Hardware Engineering Tesla Motors, Inc. 130,400 - 195,600 USD paid holidays, flex time, 401(k) United States, California, Fremont May 14, 2026 What to Expect Tesla is looking for aMetrology Engineerwhowill be responsible formaintaining,improving, and analyzingin-line and offlinePV cell metrology forR D, pilot line, and manufacturing. Accurate characterization is critical tomaking good, reliablePV cells,diagnosing yield loss and low efficiency,and developing our next generation cell technology.

Additionally,you willtake on more complexmeasurementandfailureanalysis whereclean signaland interpretation are challenging. You will also have opportunity to expand into cell device fabrication.

Up to 30% travel. What You'll Do Setup measurement recipes for characterizingPV cellsincludingsolar simulator IV, quantum efficiency, electroluminescence, photoluminescence,automated optical inspectionand lifetime measurements Work with accredited labs, engineers and suppliers to establish calibration standards and product/component standards Troubleshootcalibration and measurement errors in-house as well as metrology disagreements with suppliers Train users, certify metrology, and replace consumableswhilemaintaining high lab uptime Proposeandbuildor sourcenew metrology andmetrology improvements Develop code and data pipelines to analyze measurements and images What You'll Bring Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Optics, Photovoltaics, or equivalent experience Attentive to detail with a thorough understanding of measurement, calibration,calibrationstandards, statistical variation and gauge R&R Hands on experience building either metrology or experimental setups from either PV, Semiconductor, or related industry Ability todiagnose and pinpointexperimental and metrology issuesand quicklysolvetheminaproduction environment.
