Location:
This is a hybrid (virtual/onsite) position with required onsite days on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday's at one of the following locations: Parnall (Jackson), JH Campbell (West Olive), or the Saginaw Service Center (Saginaw). The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify). General Summary of Job Responsibilities The Principal Renewables Engineer is responsible for the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of solar, wind, and hydroelectric power plants, as well as emerging technologies and systems that harness renewable energy sources. This role provides technical leadership to lower-level engineers and technicians engaged in feasibility studies, cost estimating, and construction oversight. The incumbent is accountable for the performance and reliability of existing facilities and for developing new methods to improve plant efficiency. Responsibilities range from designing individual system components to overseeing the full lifecycle development of new renewable energy facilities and power plants.

The department is responsible for the engineering of all new generation assets. This role will focus specifically on the development and engineering of electric supply assets, including solar, wind, and battery energy storage systems (BESS).The selected candidate will serve as a subject matter expert in solar, with responsibilities including the review of production performance reports, evaluation of solar facility designs, and development of engineering specifications. #LITR1 Essential Duties and Responsibilities Design plans and specifications for renewable energy systems Prepare and submit grant proposals to secure funding for renewable energy projects Perform site analyses for potential wind farm development, including evaluation of wind speed, terrain, vegetation, and proximity to transmission lines and load centers Conduct environmental assessments of proposed construction or demolition sites to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations Prepare technical reports summarizing feasibility study findings Design, develop, and oversee the construction and installation of renewable energy systems, including solar, wind, and hydroelectric power plants Conduct feasibility studies to assess the potential for new renewable energy projects Monitor system performance and implement modifications as necessary to improve efficiency Stay informed of emerging renewable energy technologies and systems Provide technical guidance and leadership to teams of engineers and other professionals working on renewable energy projects Perform other duties as assigned or required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Proficiency in AutoCAD, Mathcad, and Microsoft Office Experience with engineering design and calculation software Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities Familiarity with energy storage systems, solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, and wind turbines Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) Strong written and verbal communication skills Education/Experience Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program with seven (7) or more years of experience in a renewable engineering role. [OR] Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from a non-ABET accredited program plus a Professional Engineering license with (7) or more years of experience in a renewable engineering role.
