  • Full-time About the Role To support our continued growth we are seeking a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) to lead electrical engineering on large-scale commercial solar PV and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects across Texas and California.
Based in Austin, you will own the full engineering lifecycle — from conceptual design and interconnection through construction support and commissioning — on utility-scale and large commercial projects typically ranging from 1 MW to 10+ MW. This is a high-impact role for an engineer who wants ownership, variety, and the opportunity to shape how clean energy infrastructure gets built in one of the fastest-growing markets in the country. What You'll Do Lead electrical engineering design for utility-scale and large commercial solar PV and BESS projects, including ground mount, tracker, carport, and rooftop configurations Develop and stamp project drawings: site layouts, one-line diagrams, equipment schedules, string sizing, conduit/wire sizing, and protection coordination Perform power system studies including load flow, short circuit, arc flash (IEEE 1584), and voltage drop analysis using ETAP, SKM, or similar tools Prepare and review medium-voltage (5-35 kV) substation and collector system designs; coordinate with utilities and EPCs on interconnection requirements Manage ERCOT, PUCT, and AHJ permitting, interconnection applications, and inspection processes Develop equipment specifications and review vendor submittals for inverters, transformers, switchgear, BESS systems, and MV equipment Coordinate with structural, civil, and geotechnical engineers to produce stamped permit and construction drawing packages Support construction teams during installation, pre-commissioning, and commissioning; provide field engineering guidance as needed Conduct energy production modeling using PVSyst, SAM, or HelioScope and validate against performance guarantees Serve as the technical lead and client-facing engineer on assigned projects; manage expectations and present design solutions clearly Mentor junior engineers and EIT staff; contribute to internal standards, templates, and quality processes What You Bring Required Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) — Texas license required. California PE license required or willingness to obtain CA licensure; projects span both states and stamped drawings will be required in each jurisdiction Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university (Master's a plus) 5+ years of electrical engineering experience with a strong focus on solar PV and/or BESS projects Demonstrated experience stamping and taking engineering responsibility for commercial/utility-scale solar projects Proficiency in AutoCAD and at least one PV design tool (PVSyst, HelioScope, or equivalent) Working knowledge of
NEC, IEEE
standards, NFPA 70E, and Texas interconnection requirements (ERCOT) Experience with medium-voltage design and utility interconnection coordination Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable presenting to clients, utilities, and AHJs Preferred
NABCEP PV
Design Specialist or PV Installation Professional certification Experience with ETAP, SKM, or similar power system analysis software Hands-on commissioning experience including I-V curve analysis, thermographic inspection, and BESS commissioning Familiarity with NERC standards and ERCOT generator interconnection processes Familiarity with PG&E interconnection standards and processes Experience with microgrid design, EV charging infrastructure, or behind-the-meter storage OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification Compensation & Benefits Competitive base salary commensurate with experience ($150,000
