Minor & Co., an established Surveying, Engineering, Environmental, and Planning firm based in Greenwich, CT, is seeking a Land Survey Technician I to join our surveying team. This entry-level role is ideal for someone dependable, detail-oriented, comfortable working outdoors, and interested in building a technical career. Prior surveying experience is helpful, but not required. The position includes assisting field crews with boundary, topographic, as-built, construction layout, and existing conditions surveys, while learning survey equipment, mapping, AutoCAD, and GIS . This is a full-time, in-person position, Monday to Friday, with typical hours of 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM , subject to business needs. Why You'll Want This Role You will not be stuck doing the same narrow task every day. This role provides hands-on experience in both the field and office, with exposure to surveying, mapping, AutoCAD, GIS, project coordination, and the day-to-day operations of a professional services firm. You will build practical technical skills, learn how survey work moves from field data collection to project delivery, and gain exposure to a respected profession with long-term career potential, including a possible path toward Professional Land Surveyor licensure . Key Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to): Assist survey field crews with boundary, topographic, as-built, construction layout, and existing conditions surveys. Help set up, carry, and maintain survey equipment, including tripods, rods, prisms, levels, GPS equipment, and data collectors. Assist with field measurements, site observations, photographs, sketches, and field notes. Help locate and document site features, including buildings, walls, fences, driveways, utilities, drainage structures, trees, and property markers. Support preparation of survey maps, plans, and related project documents. Assist with basic AutoCAD, GIS, mapping, and project coordination tasks as training progresses. Research deeds, maps, property records, easements, and municipal land records, as needed. Follow direction from crew chiefs, survey managers, and licensed land surveyors. Maintain organized equipment, field notes, project files, and documentation. Work safely on job sites, including residential properties, construction sites, roadsides, wooded areas, and wetland/upland areas. Communicate professionally with team members, clients, contractors, and municipal personnel when needed. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications No prior land surveying experience required; training will be provided. Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn. Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather and site conditions. Able to walk job sites, carry equipment, and perform physical fieldwork. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. Able to follow directions carefully and ask questions when needed. Basic math, measurement, and problem-solving skills. Professional attitude and strong communication skills. Interest in land surveying, mapping, AutoCAD, GIS, civil engineering, construction, or related technical fields. Valid driver's license preferred. Interest in building a long-term career in surveying, including a possible path toward Professional Land Surveyor licensure , preferred. Preferred but Not Required Prior outdoor work, construction, landscaping, fieldwork, or technical experience. Familiarity with AutoCAD, GIS, GPS, drones, or measuring equipment. Coursework or interest in surveying, engineering, geography, environmental science, construction, or mapping. Experience working in a professional services, project-based, or team-oriented environment.
