Duties
Help
Serve as a Senior Engineering Technician Expert for the USACE Marine Design Center (MDC) Mandatory Center of Expertise (MCX) in support of new-build and/or alteration or repair of dredges at various shipyard field sites within the United States.
Provide expert consulting services relating to all aspects of dredge vessels.
Provide expert-level mentoring and advice to other lower graded engineering technicians, technical managers, and project managers.
Apply and coordinate technical guidance through the Engineering Design Division as part of the Mandatory Center of Expertise's established design quality management system.
Serve as Marine Design Center's principal representative for construction quality assurance and tests and trials on new dredge vessels and for major dredge retrofits of existing significant dredge vessels within the United States.
Responsible for independently planning, coordinating, and supporting the construction oversight of complex and unique dredge and marine vessels.
Conduct independent field inspections to examine work under construction at various shipyards across the United States as well as completed, or currently existing, dredges at District field sites and offices within the United States.
Determine criteria for repair and resolution of dredge vessel features that are not within contractual requirements and for resolution of tests and trials related issues to ensure the vessel is fully able to accomplish its Navigation mission.
Apply practical knowledge of shipyard construction risk management and shipyard construction scheduling techniques and methods.
Develop technical presentations providing recommendations that may serve as a foundation for decisions made by officials at higher levels.

One year of specialized experience which includes: (1) providing consulting services relating to all aspects of dredge vessels; (2) planning the construction oversight of complex and unique dredge and marine vessels; and and/or (3) conducting field inspections on marine vessels at various shipyards. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). Time in Grade Requirement:
Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12). Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Additional information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
This position requires a 1 year probationary period, if not already completed, during which the agency evaluates your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest.
