Position Summary Miller Brothers Construction is seeking a highly skilled Project Surveyor to join our heavy civil and highway construction team in Central Ohio. This role is critical for ensuring the precision and integrity of large-scale earthmoving, bridge, and infrastructure projects. You will be responsible for translating digital design files into physical reality, managing high-precision geospatial data, and providing essential layout support to field crews. The ideal candidate blends traditional surveying expertise with modern technology, utilizing robotic total stations, GNSS, and UAS to maintain Miller Brothers' reputation for quality and efficiency.Key Responsibilities Field Layout & Staking:
Execute precise construction staking for earthworks, subgrades, utilities, drainage systems, and structural elements using Trimble robotic total stations and GNSS equipment.As-Built Documentation:
Perform post-construction surveys to verify that all installations meet design tolerances and regulatory requirements.Technology Integration:
Deploy and manage advanced tools, including UAS (Drone) flights for site progress mapping and volume calculations.Equipment:
Troubleshooting and maintenance for GPS-guided heavy machinery (dozers, graders, and excavators) and other survey related equipment.Control:
Evaluate the accuracy of existing control networks and perform site calibrations. Establish and maintain control networks throughout the duration of projects as needed.Plan Interpretation & Analysis:
Demonstrate mastery in reading and interpreting complex heavy civil engineering plans, including plan and profile views, cross-sections, and detail sheets. You must be able to identify potential design conflicts before they reach the field.Collaborative Teamwork:
Work seamlessly with Superintendents and Foremen to support digital models and as-built collection. You are a consultant to the field, ensuring every operator has the information they need to succeed.Required Technical Qualifications Experience:
Minimum of 3-5 years in construction surveying, specifically within heavy civil, highway, or large-scale site development.Equipment Proficiency:
Mastery of Trimble hardware (e.g., SPS-series robotic total stations, R-series GNSS receivers, and TSC7 data collectors).Software Skills:
Proficiency in Trimble Business Center (TBC), AutoCAD Civil 3D, or similar platforms for data reduction and model preparation a plus but not required.Certifications:
FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate is a plus for UAS operations. Physical & Environmental Requirements Must be able to navigate rugged construction terrain on foot while carrying survey equipment (up to 75 lbs). Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions typical of Northern and Central Ohio. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining tight project schedules.
