POSITION
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, specifically within Engineering District 12-0, is actively looking to hire a dedicated full-time Survey Technician. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
In this position, you will be an integral part of a survey team responsible for operating both manual and electronic equipment across various types of surveys, including preliminary, right-of-way, engineering, bridge, construction, land, and property assessments. Your duties will involve setting up, operating, adjusting, and maintaining a range of survey instruments. You will establish centerlines, measure angles, and verify the alignment of structures, while also staking out tangents, curve stations, and reference control points. Additionally, you will utilize a level to secure ground elevations, establish benchmarks, and determine road grades. Proficiency in operating theodolites, electronic distance measuring devices, electronic total stations, electronic data collectors, portable computers, and telecommunications equipment will be essential. You will also employ various Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers and methodologies to accurately establish mapping and survey-grade point locations. Your role will require performing trigonometric and algebraic calculations, preparing detailed field sketches and notes, and reviewing the work of colleagues to ensure accuracy and precision in all survey-related tasks. Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
Telework:
You will not have the option to telework in this position.
Salary:
Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $45,907.00 (before taxes). REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
One year of experience as an Engineering Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Three years of experience as a member of a survey corps which included duties operating both standard and electronic surveying instruments; or One year of experience as a member of a survey corps which included duties operating both standard and electronic surveying instruments, and an associate's degree in surveying, drafting, design, civil or any other appropriate field of engineering technology.
Conditions of Employment:
This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania driver's license.
