Job Title:
Survey CAD Technician Job Description The Survey CAD Technician performs office-based surveying and drafting work, focusing on boundary and control calculations, CAD LiDAR processing and extraction, field data processing, and construction layout calculations. This role supports a Survey CAD Manager with data processing, drafting, and preparation of construction drawings, primarily for transportation projects, with opportunities to assist on municipal work as well. The position involves daily use of AutoCAD and additional use of MicroStation Bentley and Civil 3D for survey-related CAD tasks. Responsibilities Perform boundary and control calculations to support survey and design activities. Process and extract data from LiDAR and other survey data sources for use in CAD drawings and models. Complete field data processing to ensure accurate and usable survey information for project teams. Prepare and perform construction layout calculations to support design and construction operations. Assist the Survey CAD Manager with data processing, drafting, and development of detailed construction drawings. Produce survey CAD drawings and models for transportation projects and assist with municipal project work as needed. Use AutoCAD on a daily basis to create, edit, and maintain survey and construction drawings. Use MicroStation Bentley for survey CAD work on transportation-related projects, receiving training if prior experience is limited. Use Civil 3D for survey CAD work on non-transportation project work as required. Collaborate with project teams to ensure survey deliverables are accurate, complete, and aligned with project standards. Maintain organized digital files and documentation for survey and CAD work to support efficient project delivery. Essential Skills At least 2 years of experience as a Survey CAD Technician or Drafter. Proficient AutoCAD skills for survey and drafting work. Knowledge of at least one 3D CAD package, ideally MicroStation and/or Civil 3D. Ability to perform boundary and control calculations and interpret survey data. Ability to process LiDAR and field survey data for use in CAD. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in drafting and calculations. Valid driver's license. Additional Skills & Qualifications MDOT or similar transportation project experience. Experience with MicroStation Bentley CAD software. Experience with Civil 3D CAD software. 3 or more years of experience in survey CAD or related drafting roles. Licensed Surveyor or the ability and intent to obtain licensure. An Associate or Bachelor's degree or higher in Surveying, Geomatics, Land Surveying, or Surveying Engineering. Self-driven mindset with a desire to learn, grow, and take on new challenges. Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented, forward-thinking environment. Work Environment This role is based in an office environment, working primarily with AutoCAD, MicroStation Bentley, and Civil 3D on a variety of projects in and around the Metro Detroit area. Typical hours are Monday through Friday, totaling approximately 40-50 hours per week, with hourly pay and 1.5x overtime compensation. The position offers one remote workday per week once established in the role and provides flexible work hours to support work-life balance. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bloomfield Hills, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $36.00/hr.
