Land Survey Technician Job Description We are seeking a driven and hard-working Land Survey Technician to join our team. You will work alongside the survey party crew chief on diverse projects across South Carolina, including DOT, Commercial, Federal, Government, Industrial, Power Companies, and Warehouses. Responsibilities Locate, review, and research job locations to identify landmarks, physical objects, and significant land changes affecting the survey. Supervise the work of the survey crew, evaluate priorities, and coordinate work efforts. Ensure that the standard of work performed is high and derive necessary field calculations from completed work. Maintain instruments and equipment, ensuring angles, distances, and collected information are accurate and conform to standards. Coordinate findings with engineering personnel, clients, and other stakeholders. Research previous survey evidence, maps, deeds, and records to obtain data needed for surveys. Determine methods and procedures for establishing or reestablishing survey control. Keep accurate notes, records, and sketches to describe work performed. Complete daily logs, expense reports, and ensure safety forms and procedures are followed by the crew. Consult with computer operators and review final work production. Familiarity with surveying terms, tools, and equipment, including Total Station/Data Collector, Level, and GPS methods. Essential Skills Familiarity with survey tools and equipment used for measuring, sighting, and leveling. Proficiency in operating survey equipment such as Total Station/Data Collector, Level, and GPS methods. Hard-working with great communication skills. Must be comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions and traveling as necessary. Additional Skills & Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. 0-1 years of surveying experience. Good technical skills including being steady, helpful, analytical, a problem solver, detail-oriented, and methodical. Valid driver's license, acceptable motor vehicle record, and negative drug test result. Work Environment The position requires some overnight travel and involves a lot of walking outdoors through different terrains in all weather conditions. Work hours are Monday to Friday, 7 AM to 5 PM, with potential overtime depending on project load. Surveyors typically work 50-60 hours per week. The technician will report daily to the Charleston office and must be willing to travel if necessary. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Charleston, SC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
