Position Summary:

JMT is currently seeking Surveying Technician I - Rodman for their N. Charleston, South Carolina Office. The successful candidate for this position will be an entry level position to hold survey rods, carry equipment, cut line, make sketches and assist the survey crew as needed. They will also assist the survey team by gathering and maintaining specified data for land surveying. Finally, they will complete simple routine tasks under close supervision. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Place and hold measuring tapes when electronic distance-measuring equipment is not used Position and hold the vertical rods, or targets, that instrument operators use for sighting in-order-to measure angles, distances, and elevations Record survey measurements and descriptive data, using notes, drawings, sketches, and inked tracings Run rods for benches and cross-section elevations Search for property irons and survey points Set out and recover stakes, marks, and other monumentation Maintain equipment and vehicles used by surveying crews Perform manual labor, such as cutting brush for lines, carrying stakes, rebar, and other heavy items, and stacking rods Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities Perform other related duties as assigned Required Skills Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening Valid Driver's License Able to pass Background Check Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written and oral instructions Ability to solve problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations Required Experience High school diploma or equivalent Working Conditions Work is performed in the field 95% of the time. Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs as needed. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. The successful candidate may be required to hike into remote areas or work in heavily congested and populated areas. Work is performed within a general office environment 5% of the time. Office work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
