Job Description
The position as a Survey Department Manager (LS) is responsible for the technical oversight, workload management, and departmental leadership related to surveying deliverables in support of land development, municipal, and infrastructure projects. This role ensures that projects are completed accurately, efficiently, and in alignment with Y&H's operational standards. Responsibilities include close collaboration with field crews, engineers, and clients, along with proactive management of survey team resources and departmental objectives.
Salary Range:
$100,000-$140,000Key Responsibilities:
Direct the preparation of boundary, topographic, ALTA, subdivision, and construction surveys using data collected by field crews. Review and sign final survey documents including Records of Survey, Corner Records, Parcel Maps, Final Maps, and Legal Descriptions. Research and analyze deeds, easements, title reports, and other legal documents to support boundary determination and resolution. Process field data and perform quality checks to ensure compliance with state and local standards. Coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders to clarify survey needs, provide technical insight, and support overall project goals. Prepare and review scope, approach, and budgets for proposals related to survey services. Oversee the organization and maintenance of survey project files and documentation for legal and archival purposes. Manage department workload by tracking project schedules, assigning staff resources appropriately, and maintaining realistic timelines. Lead regular departmental meetings to align on project priorities, timelines, and resource allocation. Mentor and guide Assistant Surveyors in drafting, legal research, and survey calculations, supporting their technical development and project contributions.Qualifications:
California Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license in good standing. 5+ years of experience in land surveying, including preparation of survey maps and legal documents. Strong knowledge of boundary law, mapping procedures, and California Subdivision Map Act requirements. Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary environment.Preferred Skills:
Strong proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and survey-related software. Experience coordinating with public agencies for map reviews and approvals. Proven ability to manage team workloads and prioritize department resources. Passion for mentoring and supporting the growth of technical staff.Similar remote jobs
