Electronic (Using your CalCareer Account) Job Description and Duties Under the general direction of the Supervising Transportation Surveyor, the Senior Transportation Surveyor (Field Operations) supervises survey crews and crew personnel, providing leadership and oversight at the level required based on the configuration of assigned field staff. The Senior Transportation Surveyor (Sr TS) plans, coordinates, and oversees all field survey operations, ensuring staff work safely, effectively, and in accordance with Caltrans policies, the Caltrans Surveys Manual, management direction, and industry standards. The incumbent may be assigned work anywhere within District 8, including offices and field locations throughout San Bernardino and Riverside Counties, based on Departmental needs.PARF 08-26-0317

For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions. The amount of telework is at the discretion of the Department and based on Caltrans's evolving telework policy. The selected candidate will be required to commute to the headquartered location as needed to meet operational needs. Business travel may be required, and reimbursement considers an employee's designated headquartered location, primary residence, and may be subject to CalHR regulations or applicable bargaining unit contract provisions. Working Conditions Position located at 464 W Fourth St., San Bernardino, CA. 92401 Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment. This position is primarily an office-based role, with occasional need to work outdoors. Office work is performed in a controlled environment within the district office building and, when necessary, in temporary office locations. Occasional field visits may be required to observe survey activities, verify conditions, or coordinate with staff. When these field duties occur, the incumbent may experience exposure to moving traffic, loud noise, dust, uneven terrain, weather extremes, and proximity to construction equipment. Limited contact with hazardous materials, pesticides, or common chemicals (such as paints, cleaners, or solvents) may occur but is infrequent. If night field work is required, the incumbent must be able to work under artificial lighting and maintain situational awareness. During any field activity, the incumbent must remain alert, visually aware of the environment, and able to respond appropriately to surroundings. Personal protective equipment such as a hard hat, high-visibility vest, serviceable work boots, eye and hearing protection, and respirator equipment (as needed) must be worn in accordance with departmental safety requirements.
